I have a question please re this Tap?

The way I program is to spend half an hour each Saturday morning going through all the channels on the EPG and selecting the progs I fancy for record.

IF something is going to overlap, then it will inform me as I am programming, so I can try to find a repeat on a plus1 channel or something.

Recently I recorded a whole series (The Undatables) and each time the very end was cut off - meaning that I couldn't see how the couples go on in the end (If you watched this yourself you would know how annoying that would be)

So, I'm interested in using this Tap but have concerns about how it would manage overlaps? A lot of time I am recording something at say, 21.00, and then something directly after at 22.00. So adding time automatically, is surely a recipe for disaster??

Anyone else using this regulalry?

Sounds like you should be using the my stuff tap; this will automatically sort out recording at another time.

However, I seem to remember that you rejected this as being to complex (perhaps I'm confusing you with someone else).
To my mind, it should'to be any more difficult to run Ms as running in native mode - but it may seem so while you come to terms how it works

The extend tap automatically sorts out everything and only extends the recording if the tuner isn't required for a different channel.

Are you saying that Mystuff will go off anf find a repeat of a progranm if timer overlaps? Thats pretty impressive. My 'issue' with mystuff was always that there are too many buttons to config.

You don't have to 'config' any if you don't want to. MyStuff will work pretty well with the standard setup.

I agree with Bill.

If all you are doing is selecting programmes to record in the epg then you could just as easily do that from the MS epg. Also, when recording a future program, you can select a Power Search from the pop up menu and it will then record all future episodes. It also handles any Epg changes e.g. If a programme is rescheduled (your manual method will miss it)

Once you are used to Ms, you can enable other features e.g. The recycle bin; this allows you to retrieve recordings deleted by accident (not something that happens often but I've found it very useful on occasions)

My approach to configuring MS is to use it as is then as and when I think "I would rather it would do this than do that" then look in the settings for something that will make it do that and nearly every time I will find it. Smile

I've used it for years. It's great.

There is no reason why you shouldn't have this TAP installed.

It won't stop any of your other selections from being recorded.

However as you say, if you have TWO programmes being recorded at 22.00 in your example then this TAP can't do magic. If its only one recording then this TAP will work and keep recording until your programme has finished.

It's worth a go as its fail safe.

ok, I currently have this tap installed - as I eneded to get all the update patches etc, but the tap has been renamed so that it is not active. I will rename it back and give it a try. Where in my list of taps should it start?

It should be in "\ProgramFiles\Auto Start" (note the space)

It doesn't matter.

[Edit] Actually, that's not quite true. If you're using QuickJump, then QuickJump needs to be before MyStuff, so that it "catches" your button presses and only passes them through to MS if it doesn't want to act on them itself.

Generally, that's the rule about the order of TAPs in Auto Start. In general it doesn't matter what order they're in (apart from "special" ones that specifically need to be first or last), but if more than one TAPs listens for button presses, the first one in your load order will get "first refusal" to act on the button you've pressed.

To answer your question, the Extend TAP

a) assumes in the default config that you have automatic padding added to all of your recordings (2 mins before and 6 mins after, which matches the default padding added to recordings by MyStuff). If you're not using a TAP such as MyStuff that automatically adds padding (except when that would prevent another recording if you have the appropriate MyStuff option set), you'll need to change the Extend.ini settings to match reality if you want to avoid LOTS of false positive recording extensions.

b) Extend will extend a recording past the end of the timer that has been set until
i. it sees the first "accurate" bookmark after the extpected end time of the recording
ii. 2 hours have passed
iii. The tuner is needed for another recording.

oh my, that all sounds too complicated. Hence why I've never used mystuff or timer extend. Crying or Very sad

You only have to modify Extend.ini because you are intending to use Extend without using MyStuff; you wouldn't need to change it if you used MyStuff as well.

Anyway, just stick it on and see how it goes - you can always delete it or ask further questions later.

What it does may sound complicated.
Using it is not complicated. It just sits there and works when it needs to.
