@MikB

Thanks for that info, it shows the importance of starting PruneEPG automatically when the toppy boots and also indicates that one can have about 60 configured channels (on a TF5800).

Your signature indicates that you are not using several patches normally loaded by MyStuff users (not surprising, as you don't use MS). However, one of these patches is [Ef].

R2-D2's page wrote:
The EIT Dup Fix [Ef] patch fixes bugs in the Toppy's EIT data collection add and delete routines, preventing duplicate entries clogging up the space and causing other errors. To reduce problems from CRC errors, the EIT CRC Fix [Ec] patch should also be applied. ...)

As a non MyStuff user, the number of entries can be expected to grow over time as the events for a forth coming day are broadcast; this will be compounded the longer the toppy is left on (your post implies it stays on for several days). Note: the situation would not be as bad for a MS user running in a similar manner as EPG2MEI would delete "old" entries freeing up space in the eit table.

You might also want to look at http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=139460#139460. (this explains why one might get duplicate entries in the epg)

So, for best running, I suggest you
1) Install R2-D2's [Ef] patch (and any other eit patches that may be relevant)
2) Set the box to shutdown over night (I'm not quite sure what tap you would use to achieve this) or at least make a point of restarting it frequently

It also has removed a lot of junk that I never did trace the source of: I do a gather-and-sort of all programme names to get an alphasorted list of "all titles", which until running your Pruner TAP gathered all sorts of random junk too. This started a while back, I don't know if it's connected to the event table/cache overflowing OR a channel that has really bizarre EPG data. Or just a bug Sad

Some 'junk' was identified in another thread as epg information for channels on the HD mux, seems that dvb-t2 supports compression of titles, and these then appeared as binary junk on the toppy and corrupted even the output of "pr event". Large no of entries for the cbbc-hd and cbeebies-hd

I confirm that PruneEPG solves this problem, and I have now also pruned channels down to keep below the 14000 limit.

This tap is great, I recommend to all!

New fact learned! Thanks for that.

@Geoff -- yes the Topfield does stay up for days, it historically got two reboots a week on EPG-hunting day (checking and setting any timers for 3-4 days ahead). It still does get a reboot once a week and seems to be fine with that.

@Geoff thanks for this little gem of a tap. I didn't really notice any problems with holes in the EPG but since installing PruneEPG things do feel better.

Hello chunkywizard

I just tried the MyStuff installer to update our Toppy, but the installer stalled!

The log file includes this:

Downloading and unzipping latest installation script files
Line 40: LoadFiles:M http://www.toppy.org.uk/~chunkywizard/TAPDownload/MyStuff66FirmwareScripts.zip
Downloading latest version from the internet
Unzipping downloaded files
Error - Downloaded file is not a valid zip file

There were several re-tries, but the same message repeated.

Thank you for all the work that you do to help,keep our Toppies working so well. It is much appreciated.

@fhJones

I've just download the zip file to my pc by clicking on the link you posted. I then successfully extracted the files i.e. the basic zip file is ok (perhaps the installer can't process it for some reason).

Hmm. Yes. Thanks Geoff.

The link was copied from the MS installation logfile along with the other stuff. I don't know enough to comment, but I will try again later.

Re-booted computer and tried again with different Toppy, but I got the same result. I have not had a problem with the MS installer before, so clearly summat's up. Probably at my end. I don't know where to start looking, so I will leave it be for the time being.

Our Toppies work OK as they are, so it isn't a problem.

Thanks again Geoff

There is something wrong with the installer mechanism - I get the same error messages as fhjones (although I have proved that the zip file is usable if loaded manually).
I'm running on XP

One slight change to the install this morning to make logo handling easier. I don't see that I could have broken anything but might be worth a check! I am not using the http://sites.google.com/site/toppylogos/home/dat_logos.zip link rather than the individual links for the .dats seperately.

Can anyone test pls?
