You haven't actually confirmed whether or not the native EPG has information and that the MyStuff EPG doesn't

Please do the following:
1) Find a gap in the MyStuff EPG for a "mainstream" channel e.g. BBC1
2) exit the EPG
3) Press > (between << and >>) and Guide; this will show the native EPG (it may be a long time since you accessed it!). The native EPG looks totally different from the MS one and, on my 5800, is light blue for a single channel)
4) Scroll the EPG to the same time slot and see if any EPG info is displayed.
If no, then MyStuff won't get any info either; if yes, then that shows that EPG data is available and there is an issue with the collection/passing to MyStuff.

Sorry about that; I didn't notice the final line of that longish post saying it was also "missing from the native epg".

As mstombs pointed out, if the data is missing from the native EPG then there is no way that MS is going to see it. This should also eliminate issues with entries in EPG2MEI.ini (I believe that EPG2MEI just captures the EPG data before passing it on to the native mechanism)

Assuming you have a digital TV, can you check to see if that is also missing EPG for the same time slots? If so, then it is a transmission problem; if not then it is toppy related.

And is the toppy still showing no epg for the times that the tv has epg?

Geoff

BTW. On this forum, one doesn't normally quote what you are responding to unless you are trying to highlight something; it just makes the posts much longer.

the epg on the tv appears to be totally complete, whereas toppy has many chunks missing.

This is only a theory, but is it possible that epg2mei is crashing or malfunctioning in some way?
I said in an earlier post that rebooting after a hour or so seemed to improve the epg populating, so could this be an explanation?

We don't have access to source-code of epg2mei, and IIRC the cuurent version was a a beta that just seemed to work... One thing I have noticed is that Channel Organizer now generates very large ini files with time restrictions for most channels. I personally don't like that and prefer a single entry in the epg informing when programmes start, rather than blank IMHO restrictions only needed if epg potentially wrong or just full of shopping etc. Could epg2mei have array allocation issues...?

I believe the Freeview epg is supposed to be re-broadcast every 5 minutes, now and next and current mux info should be faster. If data corrupt or missed same data may need to be caught on next update.

I know epg2mei doesn't start immediately after boot - it waits for some time after key presses, but if the epg is not complete after toppy switching on and not using remote for 30 minutes then something is wrong!

ITV really messed up their epg info last week, human error plus lousy QA! I think it is OK now here, but maybe it is taking a while for the fixes to propagate around the country?

Are you saying epg data that was there last night is now missing?

Have you done a Z2 epg delete recently?

The EPG on my TV is liberally sprinkled with 'No information' for BBC1 & 2 along with many others. The OTA data seems to be getting worse.

epg on my tv is fine, on toppy its very patchy, i think/hope its just an epg issue but my tv kind of contradicts this.

@tippy

The signal quality on each mux looks good.

You have 100 strength on T1 and about 95 on T2. This looks ok (the difference is normal if you are daisy chaining the tuners).
One possible issue is that the 100 on T1 may indicate that the signal is too strong and that the tuner is being swamped. Should the need arise, you could use an attenuator to reduce the strength to nearer 70-80 (as long as the quality stays 98 or above).
Note: I suggest you don't buy an attenuator until all avenues have been exhausted.

How have you cabled up the aerial ? (just in case you are going from the wall socket to the TV and then to the toppy).

The aerial needs to go from the wall into the top right toppy tuner (when viewed from the front), then from the bottom right to the free top "left" connector. The free bottom "left" connector then goes to the tv

Geoff
