My ISP has just informed me that I'll be losing my web space some time in the next 3 days. So I have taken down my web pages while I can.

Chunkywizard has put a link to my logo packs in the Mystuff installer. This will no longer work as my web page no longer exists.

So can someone can inform Chunkywizard to update the installer scripts. I have sent him a PM be not sure when he may pick it up.

Sorry for the short notice, but I've given you as much as I could.

gramps

Edit: Good news!!! I now have a new website for my logo packs here

That's not a very nice New Year present to you from your ISP. Is there a valid reason?

My ISP Virginmedia are pulling out of ADSL. It seems they have sold their ADSL broadband to Talk Talk. Still trying to find out what it means and when things will happen. Shocked

There are lots of ways to get free web space without being tied to an ISP.

The Toppy help pages in my sig are hosted by Google, and use their "sites". All you need is a Google account. I wouldn't mind betting that other webmail providers (Microsoft, Yahoo) probably offer something similar.

Or there's Weebly

You can even get creative about using Dropbox to host a simple website

The other alternative is to host your files on a Guest login part of a NAS. Then anyone you give the link to can access your files and you have full control over them and how much space you want to give to a public facing site.

Thanks for the feedback folks.

But it seems I'll be in a state of limbo for the short term.

For whatever reason VirginMedia are moving my broadband on to the TalkTalk network. Which means I lose access to the ftp server where my web site is located. @mstombs I won't have access to TalkTalk's webspace as I'm not a TalkTalk customer.

Good luck with the forced ISP change, hope you don't rely on virginmedia email address...

rather mixed responses in the comments here!

Good reasons NOT to use your ISP's web hosting or email service. See my other suggestions above (which remove the limbo, because you don't have to wait for anything).

People who rely on their ISP for web space and email get the same problem when they move house - just at a time when extra stress is the last thing they need.

Thanks for the link, very interesting. I am with Virgin's ADSL and have experienced service interruptions recently along with the very slow download speed (600k) mentioned. With no prospect of fibre to the door I had given up on alternatives due to the hassle of changing e-mail addresses. I certainly wouldn't consider Talk-Talk (not into choirs or big dog drawings!) but have as yet heard nothing about this from Virgin. My e-mail has been sold off to Google, but the only difference I notice is that I can no longer get the web-mail facility and hence access to my spam box without signing up to Google.

We switched FROM TalkTalk to PlusNet some years ago (at the recommendation of ChunkyWizard). We do get fibre here, and unlimited data, and very good value, especially if you choose to pay your phone rental up front.

If you use that link, we'll get a bit off our bill for recommending you, or if you forget the link, you can still tell them that you were referred by juwlz when you sign up.

Thanks, Julie, will look into it further. A mile away they have fibre, here in the sticks I am lucky to get 2Mb on a good day although speed isn't everything.

In that case you must be on Virgin National and WILL be moved to TalkTalk. Sounds like the process has already started for you.

There should have been a letter from Virgin about the switch to TalkTalk but I haven't received one either. At some point you then get an email from National Switch informing you of the imminent move on to TalkTalk's network. This I did receive but if you don't use your virgin email you won't have got that either.

You will be moved to TalkTalk if you don't do anything about it.

Thanks for the pointers in your previous post Juwlz. I only ever intended to used my ISP web hosting as a temporary measure.

But my limbo is down to my broadband connection being moved on to a different network some point in the next few days. Like I could lose it for a while if doesn't go smoothly.

I can also thoroughly recommend PlusNet although I have my domain name and email hosted by https://www.uk2.net/
