After replacing all the PSU capacitors I discovered my problem was actually a faulty HDD. Got a new disk and a SATA adaptor . All works fine but the normal Toppy IDE cable is too short to reach the adaptor. Needs to be 1-2 inches longer
Any suggestions. Will a standard PC cable be OK as they are significantly longer and no ferrite core
thanks in advance

Toppy very fussy about cables - need an 80 way in backwards I recall, I like a round shielded one - have used the shorter part of master/slave connection - but only had success with 2 out of 3 cables tried. See more discussion in sticky disk/adaptor threads.

I would suggest that the failing PSU wrote off the hard disk by supplying the wrong voltage to it. It does not take long for that to happen.
