I have just started getting a compiler warning "1 [main] rxvt 1516 find_fast_cwd: WARNING: couldn't computer FAST_CWD pointer.", though it does seem to compile OK. It is possible this is associated with recent update to Windows 8.1. Has anyone else seen this, and better still found a solution? Is it likely to be having some subtle effect on the results that I have yet to trip over?

http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.os.cygwin/139444 implies you are using an old version of the Cygwin dll

That's a different error code, and seems to apply to W8 back in May, but I have certainly had no problems using W8 then. Searching for my error code brought up no answers (just retried and got my own post!).

However replacing the dll with the latest version seemed worth a try, but that gives a catastrophic error report - looks as if I will have to upgrade whole of Cygwin, which will no doubt end in more hassle!

Thanks for trying, however, Geoff.

Hi EMJB

I have started getting a similar error - 0 [main] mips-gcc 4152 find_fast_cwd: WARNING: Couldn't compute FAST_CWD pointer - when compiling MS on my new W8.1 device.

What did you have to do in the end to get it to work for you? Was it a full reinstallation of cygwin? Or did you just ignore the warning?

I just copied everything over from my W7 64 bit installation. The compiled TAP seems to be working OK (well, as OK as the same code compiled on the W7 machine anyway), but worried in case this warning is actually significant.

I ended up simply ignoring it, and haven't had any problems that I could associate with this. I keep meaning to investigate further, but have never got round to it.

Sounds like a plan. I'll ignore it too. Thanks.

Seems to be an MS feature/change in Win8.1 Update.

The latest CygWin might fix it: see this (or use MinGW?).
