The other day E4 made a mess of their CRID data and I had to delete hundreds of timers for BBT which was mixed up with 'How I Met Your Mother'. now I find that I have missed the first episode of Series 7, and that Episode 2 is on a different SCRID from Episode 3.

I have deleted my PS and set two SSs (too scared at the moment to change one of them back to a PS).

@chris_s

Don't watch this so can't help with the recording.

When you deleted the timers, did you delete from the timers screen or did you exclude the series from the searches screen? If from the timers screen, then it may have been less effort from the series screen (depending how badly the EPG was mangled).

Are you still on MS 6.4? If so then might be worth while upgrading to 6.5. if already on 6.5 then signature needs updating.

Geoff

Seems to be OK for me.
I set up a manual recording for Ep1 when it came up and changed that to a Series Search once the series data was available.
It's on 4 times a week, so you have 3 further chances for Ep.2 - starting Sunday lunchtime.
I no longer have Ep.1, though.

I found similar to Chris. My search (and that for HIMYM) went wrong and I had all the episodes from all series in my timers screen. I manually excluded the episodes (including the new series episode 1 in error) but have now excluded the series in the BBT screen.

Mine are Power Searches and have picked up episodes 2 and the upcoming 3 without issue.

Now that there is a bit more EPG data available I have also managed to wrestle it back to a single PS with just the current series active, although it took quite a long time to delete all but one of the spawned SSs, and their +1 versions, having first checked that each one only contained old episodes.

Normality has been resumed.

The resumption of Series 7 starts on E4 tonight (first of 4 repeats), but I only found it by accident as They have added the now customary 'New: ' to the title (and my PS was set for 'At Start'), and they have used a different Series CRID to the first half of Series 7.

Hmm. Must see whether BobD ever made a start on conding something to be able to have a config file for the exclusion of extraneous cr*p such as "New:" at the start of a programme name for PSes and TSes.

Unbelievable! Yet mine regularly picks up "How I met Your Mother" and other E4 series, which can only be via re-used SCRIDs. This isn't rocket science E4!

I used to think it was everyday incompetence, but I begin to wonder if it's deliberate to annoy PVR users who, of course, tend to skip adverts and not see trailers for other shows.

Let's hope they don't include every other episode in the Series Search this time. I didn't enjoy having to go through deleting over 100 timers last time Shocked

For the repeats I can see in the epg, it is clear E4 have a system, but I can't see the logic for the series crid! The episode crid seems to label series and episode No

In the following
episode crid|series crid|recommendation

Code:
E4     20:30‑21:00
Thursday 16 Jan 2014   New: The Big Bang Theory
The Itchy Brain Simulation
/52176/008|/E4EI0014011616281112|

E4     20:00‑20:30
Friday 17 Jan 2014   New: The Big Bang Theory
The Itchy Brain Simulation
/52176/008|/E4EI0110515162820557|

E4     19:30‑20:00
Sunday 19 Jan 2014   New: The Big Bang Theory
The Itchy Brain Simulation
/52176/008|/E4EI0014011916281281|

Presumably this was the previous episode:-

Code:
E4     20:00‑20:30
Thursday 16 Jan 2014   The Big Bang Theory
The Proton Displacement
/52176/007|/E4EI0001401081628724|

E4     19:00‑19:30
Sunday 19 Jan 2014   The Big Bang Theory
The Proton Displacement
/52176/007|/E4EI0014011316281000|

Same codes are used for the E4+1 alternates

The work on this (started after this post) has now been delayed by the cup of tea I have spilt over the laptop keyboard! Most keys still work, but not all of them. Hoping a few more hours of drying might help, but may have to buy a usb keyboard.

I wouldn't expect to see any logic. The ECRID will be the same for all instances of the same episode, whatever channel they're shown on (this is how duplicates and alternates are identified), and the SCRID will be the same for every episode of a "series" (usually equivalent to a season) shown on the same channel (this what's used to group a series of related programmes together).

The actual detail of the CRID itself may be considered random for all practical purposes. Each broadcaster has a range of values that it can use, so they they can all assign CRIDs without fear of using each other's, but within range, some may be in use for current (or non-expired) series, and some will available. I expect they just pick the next available value using whatever algorithm they deem appropriate. (Least recently used seems like a good plan to me.)

Ahah - what E4 are trying to do is to chain together runs, not broadcast seasons/ series - so if you started watching the first season reason recently you get linked onto the season 2 automatically:-

Code:
E4     15:00‑15:30
Sunday 19 Jan 2014   The Big Bang Theory
The Tangerine Factor
/44564/017|/E4EI0130921162842529|
 duplicate
E4     15:30‑16:00
Sunday 19 Jan 2014   The Big Bang Theory
The Bad Fish Paradigm
/46869/001|/E4EI0130921162842529|

Guess it helps folk to watch episodes in correct order, when they have so many repeats and overlapping 'runs'.

And 21st Sept 2013 was probably first time they used this particular run identifier![/code]

Seems to have settled down a bit. Only escape and page down don't work (so far) and have mapped other keys to them.
My internal build now reads a file of words to ignore at the start of programme names, and it works well.
