Bought a 2nd hand TF5800PVRt (facelift model) off ebay for my parents-in-law. Been working fine for 6-12 months with MyStuff.
They call me to say it's stopped working.

On startup, no taps load, no channels present and it goes straight to the Topfield menu with no way of exiting. I took it home and ran the installation to get the channels up. I could then see a picture and the Topfield EPG, but nothing happened when I pressed the archive button, so I couldn't access any of the recordings on the hard disk.

I rebooted. It went back to the Topfield system menu and it had lost its channels again. No taps, no archive.

Any ideas where to look? Hard drive failed? (It still spins up) Power supply capacitor issue? Power supply leading to hard drive failure?

I have a spare silver 5800 that's not doing anything. Should I try swapping drives?

Any ideas welcome!

Definitely PSU capacitors. The hard drive may also have been damaged or corrupted by the failing PSU.

You could try its PSU if it has the same connectors.

Thanks Andy. I'll open them up and take a look if I can swap them. Otherwise I'll be posting or taking it down to you again. (previous fix of yours is still going strong!)

Would it be easier to put their hard disk in my old silver 5800? or are there compatibility problems between the models and the hard disk?
