<  Satellite receivers, cable boxes and PVRs  ~  3D Broadcasts

Are 3D (satellite) broadcasts, such as those from the BBC, "viewable" on 3D TVs/projectors via ordinary (non $ky) HD/DVBS2 sat boxes or is there some other decoder required?

Yes. The trickery to turn the broadcast signal decoded by the DVB-S2 box into 3D magic takes place inside the TV.
