I have looked through the complete disk upgrades thread and extracted all of the unique drives mentioned in this in order to collect a summary in one spot, which can be updated as new info arrives.

PLEASE! Do not post questions or suggestions here, only reports of successful or failed disk upgrades for disk types that do not appear in the summary list!

UPDATE 2012-11-22:
Since I am not very often here anymore the list of tested drives is not updated as it should. So for future readers you might want to scan the whole thread to see if your drive is mentioned.

UPDATE 2013-04-10:
I have scanned this thread for new drive reports and added them to the summary now.
I realize that some drives are no longer available, but I cannot know which so they remain on the list. Very Happy

Below please find a list of these drives grouped by maker/size and with the following data for each:
<model><size><type><date of report>
<type>=PATA means the parallel interface, which can simply be plugged into the Toppy connector.
<type>=SATA means the drive uses serial transfer and an adapter must be used between the drive and the Toppy (see separate thread).

NON-WORKING MODELS
A disk may be non-working in the Toppy for many reasons, for example:
- It is not recognized by the Toppy operating system
- It heats up too much and fails in the not so ventilated enclosure
- It may work unreliably so that after a few days strange restarts or similar is observed
- Other reasons that has caused a forum member to report it

Note that a disk that is non-working in the Toppy may be perfectly OK in a PC!

Samsung Spinpoint Ecogreen HD105SI 1TB SATA
with Startech ide/sata converter and original toppy cable - need to make it fit back in the chassis now or find a working longer IDE cable.

Update - fitted back in chassis with an SATA extension cable (2 from ebay) and original toppy ATA cable.

I've just installed the following combination in my TF5800 and can report it's working fine.

AV Tech Sata to IDE Converter from Amazon UK (12.80 total)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/AV-Tech-Sata-IDE-Converter/dp/B003ZV80G2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289170278&sr=1-1

and a 2TB Western Digital "advanced format" SATA disk - WD20EARS.
Powered-up the Toppy and it asked to Format the disk. Took about 2 minutes and now reports 1907702MB.

I was slightly concerned about the disk's "advanced format" but did not jumper pins 7/8 and it works fine.

I note that when Turbosat are selling "graded boxes" without disks they say DON'T USE Hitachi.

Working: Seagate ST3320310CS with DealExtreme converter SKU12537 on PVR5800T.

Presumably goes for all the Pipeline series disks which are designed for PVR use (quiet, low power, 5400rpm drives)

Worked with original cable with some data errors, replacing with 80 way screened cable works. No metalwork adaptation needed.

I have just fitted a Newlink adapter and SATA drive to a 5800 that came to me for repair.

While I waited for a WD5000AVDS Caviar Green to be delivered, I tested the adapter with a Maxtor 6L300S0 that had been taken out of a Sky HD box.

Both of these drives worked fine, but the Maxtor drew 3x more current (1.5A) than the WD on the 12V supply and about 50% more (0.74A) on the 5V.

Success, TF5810 dead hdd, after 2.5 years, fitted a new WD15EARS 1.5 TB SATA from amazon with a dealextreme sata-ide adapter. Works prefect after I removed master/slave jumper on dealextreme adapter. Dealextreme adapter took 6 weeks to arrive, but real cheap, toppy worked fine with no disk. for a while.
I used the original cable, a bit tight, I could only get one of the four screws in the base frame screwed tight, rear left so it is slighly skew, seems ok.

Mystuff loaded up ok thru the slug, perfect.

It only has to last until 2012 when freeview Hd arrives in my area and I will probably get a dreambox with freesat HD DVB-S tuners and freeview HD DVB-T2 tuners and retire my toppy and hummy foxsat-hdr.

I'm going to buy a replacement disk from the list above and a Newlink Bi-Directional SATA - IDE Adapter (NL-SATADUALADAPT) as that seems to get a good press, do I need to get any other cables while I'm at it?

Probably more money than sense, but I wanted an absolutely silent machine. Early model 160 GB TF5800 (May 05), power supply capacitors changed 09. OCZ Summit 250 GB SATA SSD, with Turbosat SATA converter. Trivial to install, Turbosat converter fitted easily, SSD fitted with a Startech 3.5" to 2.5" bay adaptor.
Note - the Summit series is now obsolete, and they are available (relatively) cheaply, albeit still 5 - 6 times a HDD price.
Been running a week, everything glitch free to date.

Do you want us to say how wonderfully clever you are or that you are a fool to spend that much money on an SSD in a PVR such as the Toppy?! If you post here then please specify the purchase price and where exactly you bought so that others may use the same supplier with more confidence than a pure shot in the dark. Of course I doubt if anyone in their right mind would do this but you never know.

You'd need a healthy size though really, wouldn't you?
