Hi to you all in cyberspace
Please accept my apology if I am in the wrong topic but I am starting to pull my hair out and really need your help.

I have recently purchased a trf7160 and desperately need to transfer files to my pc (win 7 64 bit). Antares seemed to be the answer but it won't recognise my 7160. Am I just dumb and missing something or doesn't it work for this prv.

I could really use some help. Yes the 7160 will do direct transfer to an external drive but only one file at a time and it is SLOW....

Is there something out there that will let me transfer multiple files from my trf 7160 to my PC (win 7 64bit) - any help will be very gratefully received.

Cheers

What did you do / install on your PC before attempting to connect it to your Toppy? If the answer is "nothing", then you'll need to start by uninstalling the utterly useless drivers that windows has "helpfully" installed for you. Search the forum for z4t (a utility to install the right ones) and you should find plenty of threads that will help.

Thanks Juwlz but to no avail unfortunately.

When I connect the 7160 to my laptop via usb it does nothing. It isn't that it uses the wrong drivers it doesn't 'see' it at all. I have checked the device manager and there is no sign of the pvr - plug it in / unplug it / turn it on / turn it off - nothing. The USB port works as I can connect an external drive to it directly and all is happy but the laptop (Win 7 32 bit - made a mistake before) just doesn't register that it is connected. I have read the various topics and have all the drivers / software lined up to go but without the laptop seeing the pvr I am stumped.

Any help for this luddite most gratefully received.

Rob

I missed the model number last time round, but the datasheet suggests that that model supports both external drives and networking (neither of which is the case for the 58xx models that people on this forum will be familiar with). Also, the downloads page on the same site says that Topfield Tools are only for TF5xxx and TF6xxx models, and Antares will use the same mechanism at the Toppy end, which I assume simply doesn't exist on 7xxx models. BTW, that will be SLOW too. Somewhere between USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 speeds. It's really not practical for copying a large number of recordings anyway.

It looks as though you'll have to live with copying the files off to a connected USB drive (an option that 58xx owners don't even have), or dig more into the networking capabilities of the device to see if they offer any options (which nobody here is likely to know anything about, as they're also not available on the 58xx models).

The only other possibility is that IF the TF7160 uses the same file format as the 58xx models, you could take the drive out of the Toppy and hook it up to a PC (e,g. using a caddy) and use TopfHDRW to copy the files off the drive. Alternatively, if it uses a file format that is understandable by a PC, you may be able to just use File Explorer to copy files off the drive, once you have it directly connected to a PC.

I believe there's now a new, separate Aussie forum up and running somewhere. You may find you'll get more joy there.

Julie

P.S. Just spotted this Youtube video in my search results for Topfield 7160 (when I was just trying to find out what it was). For whatever reason, whoever produced the video has disabled viewing on a mobile device (which is what I'm using atm), so I can't watch it, but it does claim to be "A short description of how to connect a Topfield TRF-7160 into a home network so that files, music & videos can be transferred between the Topfield HD recorder/player and a home computer. It is not difficult once you know how."

Well, I've now watched it, and it looks pretty straightforward. Once you have the networking set up, just use Filezilla (or another ftp client of your choice) to connect to the IP address you set up, with the user name and password that you picked.

Following the discussion here regarding using Antares for a daily backup I wonder if it is possible to add the ability to Antares to delete files from the destination that are no longer in the source, i.e. to synch the files on the PC with the files on the Toppy (or vice versa).

Anyway even if its not possbile, I use Antares pretty much every day for backing up files and settings so thanks for creating it.

regards

Roga

Windows8 and USB Driver

I have just spent some time trying to use Z4t.exe and topfield-libusb_device unfortunately Windows8 keeps failing to accept the driver. It says "The third-party INF does not contain digital signature information".

Good news is antares_1_1 runs fine Very Happy but bad news is without a usable driver no communication with Toppy Sad .

Any chance for a new driver? Very Happy Please

or a work around.

try googling z4t driver Win8 to see what others have done.

This might also work http://superuser.com/questions/497448/after-upgrading-from-windows-7-a-device-driver-no-longer-works

Is it possible to use the -x command line option to exclude a particular directory?

I'm currently running a script to copy "ProgramFiles" to my hard disk, but I want to exclude the "Backups" directory of the new MyStuff 6.5 I tried the below but it didn't seem to work:
Code:
Antares cp ProgramFiles E:\toppy -x Backups;EPG.mei;EPG.raw;EPG_diff.mei

The problem with your code is that Antares might think "Backups" is a file name. There's nothing in the command-line options page to say if it will handle directories, but you could try
Code:
Antares cp ProgramFiles E:\toppy -x Backups\*.*;EPG.mei;EPG.raw;EPG_diff.mei

Thanks for the suggestion YJ, I'll give that a try

Don't you need a -r to follow subdirectories?
