Hi,

Today I updated the firmware on my 5800 to version 5.13.65T and MyStuff to version 6.2.

I did a factory reset and then a service search. I got 10 duplicate channels with numbers >1000 (I wasn't expecting this with the updated firmware) which I deleted manually.

When I use MyStuff now though I keep getting the error message "Warning LCNs >1000 and duplicate channels found". I've carefully checked through the channels and can't see any duplicates.

Any help would be much appreciated.

All the best,

David

Channel Organiser is your friend.

Download it and run to edit out unwanted/duplicate channels.

Neither MyStuff or the recommended F/W will do this for you.

The version of firmware has nothing to do with getting duplicate channels.

The Mystuff install, if it worked correctly, should have also installed the MyInfo TAP. This produces a text log file of your configuration. It also should show any duplicate channels.

Download the MYInfo text log file to your computer and see what it reports. Post it here if you need more help with what it is reporting.

Tnere are a few TAPS that can help with duplicate channels - one of which is the FastscanGUI TAP.

Many thanks for such a prompt response. The MyInfo file has identified duplicate channels - I just need to work out how to get rid of them now.

I believe that the Myinfo TAP should have some facility for removing them but possibly only if some of the support files associated with the TAP are also installed. If you download the TAP from Tapworld you will find the manual in the zip file
http://www.tapworld.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=608&Itemid=1

The FastscanGUI TAP allows you to select a transmitter (in a fairly friendly way) and then only scans for those channels from one transmitter thus avoiding any duplicates

There area few more TAPs, Channel Manager and Channel Organiser that may help with getting rid of duplicates after scanning. Both are available on Tapworld http://www.tapworld.net/

You may also have some form of channel corruption so switch off your box at the mains for two minutes to give it cold boot before continuing.

[edit]
The Myinfo file posssibly suggests that you may be getting signals from more than one transmitter and/or you may be missing a MUX from your preferred transmitter.

Many thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond - really appreciated.

I've just manually deleted the 3 duplicate radio channels. I quit MyStuff, switched the 5800 to radio mode and then went through the radio channel list.

The error message seems to have departed, Fingers crossed!

All the best,

David

You've still got some problems, namely:
1. the illegal LCNs (try using FastScanGUI to rescan and/or the ChannelOrganiser TAP to get rid of them).
2. the MyStuff-specific patches haven't been installed.

Did your Toppy reboot at the end of the installation? If not, try rebooting now, and the FWLoad should run to install them.

Julie

Hi Julie,

Many thanks for this feedback.

I don't think the Toppy did reboot. How do I make it do this?

I had an existing copy of MyStuff installed. I used the full install package of version 6.2 and assumed this would overwrite all the relevant files. Is this a correct assumption?

I'll download the channel organiser and remove the illegal LCNs.

All the best,

David

Use the Standby button or the Off button on the remote, and then restart.

It overwrites the files it needs to without overwriting your own data or config files, so yes, it overwrites all relevant files. Installing patches is the last step of the process, and occurs when you reboot. (Actually, with a 5800, the installer SHOULD reboot the machine for you.)

Julie - thank you very much for your help.

The Toppy did not reboot after installation but I subsequently unplugged my Toppy for a couple of minutes and then restarted.

All duplicate channels have been deleted which seems to have also removed the illegal LCN message (see below).

I believe the installation programme puts FwLoad into Autostart in order to install the patches. Once it's run I presume it removes itself from Autostart? It's certainly no longer there.

I've attached the latest MyInfo file below. Do I now have the required patches installled? Incidentally how do I tell?

I updated the firmware yesterday using the download from this site which apparently already has a number of essential patches.

If the patches haven't installed, what do you recommend? Should I download FwLoad and put it into Autostart? Or should I rerun the MyStuff 6.2 installer?

If so, when using the installer am I better off to fire up the Toppy with no TAPS running? Last time my previous version of MyStuff would have been running when I installed the update.

My apologies for so many questions. Trying to get up to speed!

Many thanks,

David

Do you know from which transmitter you get your signals?
If not type your postcode into
http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

From the above Myinfo results and the duplicate channels you had I'm not sure if you are getting all the MUXs and/or getting them from the same transmitter. A mix of a near and distant transmitter may give unreliable reception for some TV channels - and it may vary on a day to day basis.

Hi Alan,

You're spot on. My Freeview signal is not great and is very unreliable. I seem to pick up signals from multiple sources. It ought to be great as I'm only 5 miles away from the transmitter in Dover. I contacted my local aerial company yesterday to come and do an assessment.

Once again many thanks for the info - I have to say this is the most helpful forum I've ever encountered.

A bit extreme - the standby button would have been cleaner, but it should have done the job. However, as the installation script is capable of rebooting a 5800 (but not a 5810), the fact that it didn't reboot suggests that it didn't complete normally, which may be why FWLoad never ran.
Quote:

You're right on all counts
Quote:

Unfortunately not. The bit intended for your forum signature (hint - see Help! in my sig Wink) is the easiest way to tell:
F/W: MS6 Recommended F/W 12/9/2009 -AbCpDeReSlSyTeXl
Which means that you have the MyStuff recommended firmware as of 12th Sept 09, but patches Ab, Cp, De, Re, Sl, Sy, Te and Xl (which are the ones that MyStuff adds on top of the standard recommended firmware) are NOT installed (as denoted by the minus sign).
Quote:

If the patches haven't installed, what do you recommend? Should I download FwLoad and put it into Autostart? Or should I rerun the MyStuff 6.2 installer?
Well, the easiest way to get the correct MyStuff firmware is to update the firmware when you update MyStuff. (i.e. don't use the separate Firmware installer, as it won't include all the MyStuff-specific firmware patches.) If you've never done that, then the patches won't be on your machine ready for FWLoad to install. So first, we need to establish (using Altair) whether all those patch files are on your Toppy in the /ProgramFiles/InstallerFirmware/Add folder. If not, the easiest thing to do will be to run the MyStuff installer. If they ARE there then putting FWLoad into Auto Start and rebooting should do it.
Quote:
If so, when using the installer am I better off to fire up the Toppy with no TAPS running? Last time my previous version of MyStuff would have been running when I installed the update.
MyStuff should spot that FWLoad is there, and delay doing anything until it isn't, so it SHOULDN'T matter (unless you've got a 5810 and are short of memory - but you haven't). If there seems to be a problem, then reboot whilst holding down the 0 key, and run FWLoad manually.

Julie

Thank you Julie - you're an absolute star.

Thank you for your patience. I'm still slightly overwhelmed with all I've read in the past 24 hrs but I'll get there.

The patch files are on my Toppy as I instructed the installer to also update the firmware (I was unaware that it could do this as well as I wouldn't have bothered installing the firmware separately 5 mins earlier!)

I've downloaded FwLoad - I'll put FwLoad.tap in Autostart and cross my fingers!
