Hello,

I have a new HDD (WD10EARS) and IDE/SATA converter from Turbsat that I'm ready to fit in my Toppy. I was sure I had seen a guide on these boards on how to go about doing this but I've had a look and cant find it. Did I imagine it or am I looking in the wrong place?

If somebody could post a link that would be most helpful.

Thanks

I can't help you with the hardware side of things, but you may find Replacing your Hard Drive useful.

If you're replacing a hard drive because the old one is faulty, don't go ahead until the PSU has been repaired, or you'll wreck your new one too.

Julie

Are you copying your old recordings to the new drive?

If so, before removing old disk, use Top Manager to take a snapshot - this will save your TAPs and settings files.

Put in new disk and adapter and allow Toppy to format it. Copy snapshot files to it.

Remove drive and attach both drives to a PC running TopfHDRW.

Copy contents of DataFiles to new disk, then put it back into your Toppy.

I'm not replacing the drive because the old one is faulty I'm just doing it because I want a bigger drive (PSU was upgarded last year). There is nothing on the old drive I need to keep so I dont have problem with starting from scratch with the new drive.

The only issue I have is with the IDE/SATA bridge, I'm not sure how to put it all together.

Remove the short IDE connector cable. (save it in case you ever sell the Toppy).

Plug the adapter IDE into the mainboard.

Connect the supplied power lead to the one that was going to the hard drive.

Plug the small power connector into the adapter and the large power connector into the drive.

Plug the SATA lead into the adapter and drive.

Dress all the cables as tidily as possible.

Switch on Toppy and it will request that the disk is formatted. This will take about 30 seconds on a 1TB drive.
