Has the site changed in the last couple of days? I no longer see the "new entries" stars next to topics. This is with Firefox. I guess it could be Firefox since I recall they put out an update a couple of days ago. |

How would he post without being logged in?
Could it be as simple as pressing Ctrl+F5? |

Exactly the same has happened here, with IE. It appears that I am not logged in, though normally the bookmark takes me straight in. Something to do with logging in has changed. |

It seems quite odd in fact. Under Tools is my username and the option to log out. Then when I go the forums I am not logged in. |

Nothing has changed on the site; I suspect that this is a browser-related issue, as I've noticed myself that post tracking is distinctly different having upgraded to Safari 4 on my Mac from Safari 3.
I am planning an upgrade of the forum software to phpBB 3, which has a different way of managing posts, which should solve this. |

Hurrah! I hope that means there will no longer be a delay getting back to the New Posts search page for us quick readers? |

Nigel, Does that mean it will remember read/unread status across sessions so it will no longer wipe out all the read/unread flags when you log out / timeout? |

As for the changes people are seeing, it is that Windows has updated to IE8 or something via automatic updates?
Also, when you select 'keep me logged in' it does this by setting a cookie on the PC. However, all cookies have expiry dates. I don't know how far in the future the site sets it as, but at some point it will expire and you will have to log in again. It could be that this has happened and you are no longer logged in as you but as a guest instead. |

phpBB 3 keeps track of unread posts across sessions, apparently, rather than within a session.

I presumed that was the case as it seems to do so on other forums I use that are on phpBB 3. I'll look forward to the upgrade then. |

I've never had any problems with the read/unread status getting lost between sessions. I've used XP, 2000, Vista, IE7, IE8 over the years and they've all worked fine. |
