Hi,

some time ago i had been working on the Linux port for NEC EMMA2 based devices, but i had to leave the project. Recently i found the NEC EMMA2 User's Manual on my hard disk and i thought you may find better use for it. So here it is:

Cor! Ta! I suspect people like FireBird, DeadBeef and bdb will be more able to understand all the technical stuff, but I'm going to try to wade through it all anyway. Smile Now I've got to remember all the bits I'd personally like to find the answers to...

Well that made for some fun reading; I am surprised at how complete it is, with everything in the same document: filter coefficients and all.

I have done some audio DSP, and knew the rough principles of video processing, but this could prompt me to learn more: just out of idle interest.

Chris.

Wow, great!
Does that mean we will be having some more patches to test soon?

I hope so.

maybe:
upside down picture patch
faster smoother fast forward
better handling of large GOP files

I'm just wondering if tom3q might also have accidentally left the Nec sample code on his disk? Smile

Accidentally - nice said. Laughing
In fact i had got this user's manual accidentally and unfortunately it didn't come with the sample code. Unfortunately that's all i've got.

The docs refer to "firmware" as well as the hardware, so that probably explains the better code that's in the Toppy firmware. Smile

I've only had time (and brain power) to digest a bit of the docs so far, but they've confirmed a few things: the third internal "channel" cannot be recorded (this is the cause of the CYRs that [Xp] fixes), this third channel is the only one that can be used for MPEG1 and PS streams (DVD?), and the fast forward tweak in [Wf] adjusts a clock (but I'm not [yet?] sure quite what actual affect that has).

I, too, have only skimmed the document, but I think that the firmware referred to may be embedded code for the DSP functionality that is not performed at the hardware level: it probably runs on embedded DSP core(s), and maybe some on the main CPU, but don't quote me on that.

That link doesn't work for me, "The folder you accessed is currently empty.".

Could someone point me to a copy of this, please?

Thanks in advance..
