I'm not a Toppy owner yet so forgive the interloping, but I am very interested in the potential of this programmable unit.

Would it be possible to record the same program simultaneously from each tuner?

I only ask because using two different aerials for each tuner should allow some special software to be written that could combined the two files and perhaps resurrect a dodgy recording.

In theory - yes. In practice - no idea (would need to try it). Obviously the firmware is the issue - it may restrict doing such a thing. It is quite an interesting idea for people with bad signals but it would be a bit of a hassle to do this frequently. What you are getting at is some sort of coherent averaging of the two video streams to remove / reduce noise. This could work well and might be performed using virtualdub and avisynth on the PC. The problem will be getting a TAP to persuade both tuners to record the same channel - haven't tried to do it so I can't say if it will work.

I you copy a channel you can start a second recording on the duplicate. The toppy will not realise/mind it is the same channel.

It's not out of the question then. An idea to be filed away. Maybe future dual PVRs will incorporate the feature natively.
