Toppy EPG was intact (so no broadcast issues) - it was just the data for all the channels on MUX2 that was missing in Mystuff - hence my suspicion it might be something to do with EPG2MEI.

As I said it doesn't seem to happen too often, but next time it does I'll grab all the logs I can and repost.

Don't you just love intermittent problems? Wink

You've reminded me that when the EPG store is full the system may try to free up space by eliminating data on a mux you aren't currently watching. Freeview has expanded to the point where the EPG store could fill up if you have not eliminated all those fluff channels you don't watch. And while [Ez] makes EPG2MEI work better it will also mean the EPG store is filled quicker.

Er, is this the right place to ask about merging data from a rt data file ?

I've just upgraded from Mystuff 5 to 6.1; I was using MyStuff.mei but now its EPG.mei

I am *VERY* impressed that EPG2MEI has found my MyStuff.mei file and has been merging the RT data - without me having to tell it to !

I now have a rather advanced query ...
I have been grabbing weather data from metcheck and metoffice and creating a fake entry in the EPG which shows the data. Up to now it has been inserted as the last line in the MyStuff.mei file using 8pm-10pm on channel 306. This loaded fine into Mystuff 5 (guide, up - to see weather) but it doesn't appear to be merged into EPG.mei

Now that all the radio stations show in the list, 306 is no longer at the bottom - so my data needs to move to the last channel to make finding it quick and easy - but its a radio channel and already contains data.
So, if I find the last time slot for 'Heart' radio station and put my data into the description for that entry in the MyStuff.mei file, will the description replace the EPG based one ? Can I replace the title too ? Will EPG2MEI import radio data from a MyStuff.mei file ????

You can change what channels you see in the EPG and what order they're listed in by creating / editing a Favourites file with the channels you want in the order you want them, and telling MyStuff to use that file. In your case, just put channel 306 at the bottom.

See the MyStuff manual for more information about creating / editing / using Favourites files, or you can download some ready-made ones from the MyStuff website, or you can use the Channel Organiser TAP to edit pre-existing Favourites files on the Toppy. (I suspect adding channel 306 might confuse CM though - you MAY have to edit the file on a PC to achieve this.)

For instance, I have a Favourites File for my EPG which presents the channels in the order that **I** want to see them in (i.e. with the ones I use most at the top, in a logical order), not in some arbitrary (to the user) order sorted by LCN.

Well I'm glad that no-one answered my question about EPG2MEI's MyStuff.mei import characteristics - it turns out that I just had to wait longer. I had assumed by the timestamp on the files that the merge happened 5 minutes after the MyStuff.mei file was loaded onto the Toppy - but this proved to be a red herring.

Juwlz : I hope you take this as a compliment ... twice now you've not actually answered the question that I was asking - but you've answered the question that I should have asked !!!
Of course I know about favourites but I've never really bothered with them before, prefering to delete unwanted channels and not really noticing the strange channel order. Now that you've reminded me of their existence I may well make use of them, not sure what I'd include, though.

@ R2-D2 Sorry for not getting back quicker...life got in the way!

So If I'm understanding you correctly, can I force the repopulation of the missing data for MUX2 when it happens by simply watching one of the MUX2 channels for a while and letting EPG2MEI do its magic in the background?? (this may also explain the mysterious way the problem seems to fix itself if this is true)

Also your suggestion seems to be that if I were to drop some of the channels that I still have listed but never actually watch (I have a lot removed with channel manager but more could be culled) then I'm less likely to come across this problem in the first place... I'm a bit confused on this point as the native Toppy epg was showing the EPG data for the MUX2 channels, it just wasn't showing up in Mystuff. When you say "the system" are you referring to the native toppy code or EPG2MEI?

Finally, given that the[Ez] patch seems to increase the potential amount of data held, then I can see that if the EPG store is finite it could cause problems. Is there any way to find out how full the EPG store is and is it possible to increase it's size? (I don't actually use [Ez] - I'm just curious Smile )

I do. It comes from having spent years in the past working in software support for a living. If you're any good at it, you soon develop a knack for spotting "odd" questions (if you'll forgive the term), and trying to find out what the real question was. (Often because the user has come up with such an unusual way of approaching something that you can't even tell what it is they're trying to do.) It helps if you're pretty familiar with the product you're supporting too, of course!

While we're exchanging compliments, as a programmer, you helpfully tend to include enough information in your posts so that I can skip the bit that says. "Why would you want to do that? What are you actually trying to ACHIEVE?", and take an intelligent guess not necessarily at the "real" question, but to offer an alternative route to a solution Wink

Other than using favourites files to restrict searches (less necessary now with PSes, but used to be more useful with TSes (or Control Timers as they used to be known)), my own most important use for Favourites is to sort ALL the channels I have on my Toppy into what I consider to be a sensible order. I hate it when I have to use other TV guides (i.e. when not at home) that don't allow me to choose my own order.

That sounds likely, although perhaps in this situation data on another mux might disappear eventually (unless you're near a changeover point -- e.g. midnight for most channels).

The native code, which does all the EIT storage management.

The EPG2MEI.log will show usage, but there's not a simple way to increase the store size. Old (and foreign) firmwares have a limit of 5000 events, normal UK firmwares expanded this to 14000, and the UK Freeview+ firmwares (5.14.X and 5.15.X) grew it again to 16000.

Thanks for the info - at least I've got an idea what's probably going on now. As I said in my original post the problem doesn't occur very often and fixes itself anyway. Perhaps I should just prune out those channels I've still got listed that, let's be frank, never get watched anyway...

...still you'd think 14000 events ought to be enough!! Very Happy

I've just noticed a 4MB EPG2MEI log file!

Is this normal? and is the log file even necessary?

yep, it grows over time. Delete it, or turn it off in the .ini. It's necessary if you have an issue and want it solved.

I'd take a wild guess at the Debug line. Try debug=off.

4MB is nothing. Every single file takes more than 1MB no matter how small it actually is (on a 160MB disk). As noted above, you can turn off debugging, or you can simply delete the current log file if you've had no previous issues and won't need that data.
