I've been playing with the idea of a SeriesLink patch to do what I think the CRID TAP does and collect the CRID data into an event's extended info (and disable collection of any real extended info -- which we don't have in the UK). Based a brief analysis of the current data, I've simplified the memory usage down to using a single 56 byte [actually, 2 blocks] buffer for each event that has any CRID data. This seems fairly optimal in terms of the balance between efficiency and memory usage. (For comparison, last time I looked the 5.14.X firmware would allocate 32 bytes per stored CRID value.)

With this in mind, what I'd really like to do is trim the tag down from "crid3X=" to just "C3X", which might help when Recommendation (CRID 0x33) data is broadcast (if it ever is...). This would also help differentiate the patch from the TAP, in case that's ever an issue.

As I see it, the benefit of a patch over the TAP is that the patch will be much more efficient, it won't constantly generate huge streams of spurious events to every single TAP, and it's one less TAP that needs to be running. Smile The advantage of the TAP is that there's a lot more scope for flexibility and compatibility.

Well if for no other reason than it would resolve a Recall key conflict I have between the crid tap and MyStuff, I'd say yes please Very Happy

Sounds very useful. We can also put it in the Recommended Firmware for MyStuff v6 so you will not need the CRID TAP. Will it interact o.k. with the DE patch (as I recall the TAPs clash). If you need any testers let me know

I imagine the DescriptionExtender TAP will still interfere or require extra logic in the TAP that's trying to extract CRID data, since it gives TAPs a different extended info, based on the short description. simonc would know for sure...

The [De] patch works differently and shouldn't interfere with the CRID TAP (and hence the patch). What's your experience?

I can't remember! I know my currently set up works fine (CRID 0.08b TAP and De patch), but I remember there being 'issues' between CRID TAP (older versions maybe) and either the patch or the DE TAP (or indeed both)

It'll be in a thread somewhere, I am sure!

Wasn't the clash between the CRID TAP and ABM, rather than the DE TAP? Or was that a separate issue?

Yes, there was certainly a problem running CRID with ABM, but I don't know if a later version of CRID solved that issue.

Yes, CRID eliminated the data that AccurateBM used, and there is a version that doesn't do that hidden somewhere. (And the patch certainly won't do that...)

Bah. First attempt seemed to work fine (in the native EPG) but eit2mei only collected the data sporadically, which was odd. Then I found that the "clever" technique I was using was being scuppered by the firmware making use of one bit of data in a way I wasn't expecting (and still don't fully understand). So I've dumped the whole approach.

And tried a new one, which removes the memory issue and seems to work fine. Currently working via a firmware-specific hook TAP, but I think a patch is possible.

As long as it is not with baited breath:- Very Happy

Sally, having swallowed cheese
Directs down holes the scented breeze
Enticing thus with baited breath
Nice mice to an untimely death.

Funny you say that - I was insure so I did a google, and it's spelt both ways. Maybe one is the better (or more correct) way?

See Wikipedia which explains what "bated" actually means and its derivation, and this article which describes how "baited" is incorrect, but sadly becoming common. After all, why would you want your breath to include a component designed to trap something - as beautifully illustrated by the lovely ditty above?
