I did some further testing (downloading a 350MB rec file)

All patch installed as per sig=> turbo download stops at 1%
Removed Bf and Bq patch => turbo download is OK
Removed only Bq => freeze on turbo download at 4%
Removed only Bf patch => turbo download OK

It seems to be the Bf patch that's giving problems, does this makes sense?

Nope! It should just retry 10 times on a buffer overflow and then behave as badly as before. But I suppose in turbo mode a buffer overflow isn't likely to be cleared, so it won't help. So it could be a timing thing. I'll have a look and see if there's anything obvious, but the buffer overflowing is bad anyway.

Some additional info: The freeze problem in turbo mode only happens when downloading larger files like a recording. This morning I made a backup copying the ProgramFiles folder from my Toppy to the PC in turbo mode (about 150 small files) without any problems.

That's an interesting result! I've looked at [Bq] and your firmware (like a lot of TF5000 ones) has an oddity in that it won't prioritise BIOS calls. This means that the code is a tiny bit different at the end, which I'd catered for apart from adjusting the destination of finite loop in V2. So it would loop infinitely on the buffer overflow. Now, quite why you're getting a message buffer overflow in turbo mode I don't know, because the other tasks shouldn't be running. But it does suggest that the problem is maybe wider spread than I thought.

Try [Bf] BiosFix V3 (which is no different for TF58x0 users).top

I just copied a 350MB recording in turbo mode. It looks like you fixed it, thanks for that.

Patched with Ux over the weekend with HDFW 2.3a over USB and it worked flawlessly.

Tried some copying from Toppy to PC and it certainly speeds things up in non turbo mode.

Using the same file I timed it, Give or take a second or two.

Box standard 13.65 1min 40secs
As sig but no Ux 1min
As sig and Ux 40secs

In turbo mode Ux didn't seem to make mush of a difference.

One thing I did find you can?t do with this patch is record one channel and timeshift another while transferring, the picture keeps stuttering (2 recordings worked fine).

Do you mean [Ux]? (Edit: yes, you did. Smile) I wouldn't expect it to make much difference (if any at all) in turbo mode since it won't benefit from the task prioritising since the USB task is the only one running in turbo mode. But the optimisation of the main routine may make a little difference.

That's interesting -- is that just buffering or actually running behind live (i.e. chasing)? Timeshifting ought to be quite similar to two recordings, but if just buffering then it does do some extra processing maintaining the thumbnail cache (and this is extra disk activity, too). Chasing ought to be the same same two recordings plus playback, which I think I tested.

I think it was buffering. I'll give it another ago tonight to be sure.

Wont be able to get back to you till I'm back at work tomorrow though.

I normally get 0.9MB/s non turbo. With Ux it goes up to 1.5MB/s. Turbo takes it up to 2.1MB/s. However, remote response is a bit sluggish during transfers and screen updates in MyStuff aren't very smooth.

I thought this might be slightly better than not responsive at all and no recordings happening. Smile

Being a bit slow sometimes, I've only just realised that this patch was only tackling downloads. Doing a similar thing to uploads may make it a tiny bit less responsive again, but it certainly improves things enormously. On my latest collection of patches, uploading went from 1.1Mb/s to 2.3Mb/s. This includes a further optimisation that I was almost dismissing because it didn't have much of an effect on downloads, but without it the rate seemed to only be 1.5Mb/s. Confused

It is I suppose, but you lose the option of maintaining unit responsiveness.

Had a play and it turned out to be both chase and timeshift.

If I get some time tonight I?ll try removing patches/taps to see if things improve.

[Ux] V3 includes the upload optimisations.

An alternative is [Uy] USBSuperTurboB which has a more subtle task switching modification -- this will make the transfers slower but maybe give a little more responsiveness and/or less stuttering under timeshift/chase play (although I've not seen that...). Both rates down to 2.0Mb/s on my tests with Altair.

R2-D2: Is this patch in addition to or instead of [U] & [Uu]?
