Using some techniques developed for the Deselect patch, I've managed to make an [Mh] MHEG_State patch, which works like the TAP except it's just for the current TF58x0 firmwares. (Background thread.)

when you say current firmwares do you mean 5.14.xx and 5.15.xx?

Yes, all those for which I have a copy of the firmware. I'll update it when there are new TF58x0 firmwares available (the TAP should continue work automatically, unless they change stuff around the areas it uses).

Try it and see! (By "current" I just mean all those that have been released [5.12.X, 5.13.X, 5.14.X, 5.15.X] -- it won't cope with any new firmwares since [obviously] I don't have a copy of them at the moment, but I will update the patch as and when.)

Although don't make the same mistake as me and leave the TAP in AutoStart. This seems to cause the patch to become unpatched...

It's a toggle, and it always has been. I probably could have made the real patch a tiny bit different to avoid that, but it's a helpful reminder to remove the TAP. Smile

Can you remind me what this does please ?

Does it automatically enable and disable MHEG when you press text ?

Hi Andy,

you need it when running the RE patch (instead of the TAP) to make MHEG stuff work (ok not the most technical of descriptions!)

Not strictly true. You need it to stop MyStuff (and other TAPs) grabbing the number keys and OK whilst in BBCi and Teletext. It doesn't matter whether you've got the Re patch installed.

In adding the Mh patch and restoring the T2 patch you now seem to have lost the two PIP patches: Pc and Rp. Was that intentional?

Embarassed no! I'll get it right in a mo... thanks for checking. I usually use the full firmware name as the file name so I remember the patches in it, but that's a bit hard with Recommended.tfd!

Is there a tool that can be run on the PC to check a firmware for what patches are applied? If not, sounds like a useful exercise for someone to tackle.
