With the latest firmware is it necessary to set a wake up timer to keep the EPG up to date?

No, unless you go away, say on holiday, leaving the Toppy in standby, as it wont scan when off.

That depends...

Yes, if you're going on holiday and the only time your Toppy will be on is to record something. This is because eit2mei suspends scanning whilst recordings are taking place.

No, if you're at home and generally watching stuff without touching the remote, which resets eit2mei's elapsed time count before it background scans, (default = 15 minutes, + approx 3 minutes to scan the channels and write out the Freeview.mei file).

I have a Watch timer set for 15 minutes at 07:00 with my eit2mei configured for a elapsed time of 5 minutes and MyStuff set to load at 5 minute intervals too. That's largely because I'm conducting some sort of testing with MyStuff, or new firmwares as they come along. So my Toppy doesn't get much rest time Wink

Ah! Have watch timers been fixed? Last time I tried there was a problem with MyStuff.

Well they've always worked when the Toppy has been in standby. They've also worked since 4.5 for switching channels when the Toppy is already switched on.

When I say work for switching channels when the Toppy is already switched on....

MyStuff has to continually check for Watch timers and force a channel change when it finds one within x amount of time of the scheduled Watch timer. This is because the TAP API is broke with respect to TAP set Watch timers Sad

Can I also remind folk to post TAP questions in the relevant TAP thread, or if the TAP relies on external data, those threads are in the computer connections topic area

The reasons for this are given here:-

http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4287

Many thanks Very Happy

I understand the need but I think you're being a little harsh. The use of a watch timer is relevant here as you mentioned it in connection with keeping the EPG up-to-date. If I had raised the question in the MyStuff thread then anyone reading only this thread and who, like me, thought that they didn't work under MyStuff would have remained unsure.

YMMV.

Well the original post should have been placed in either the MyStuff or eit2mei threads. MyStuff would have been my preference on balance.

But not as separate new TAP thread. That just makes searching for answers so much harder for everyone.

It also greatly assists the TAP authors if they only have to look for issues relating to their TAPs in one place, rather than blatted about all over the site.
