To add, on the subject of "extras", I have these add-ons working in OSMC, but they are not documented at the above links:

- iPlayer installed
- Youtube installed
- Yatse installed

The last one is interesting. Yatse is kind of a universal streamer. Install the corresponding app on your phone, and you can throw any stream to OSMC. It is so useful, I no longer bother with the iplayer and Youtube apps. Much easier to look up a video on the phone, then just "share" it to the main TV. Also works for Vimeo and Facebook videos, including live streams.

These aren't covered by Yatse but work as omsc add-ons:
- Netflix
- Amazon video

Another update...

I have today decommissioned the Topfield TF5800, having watched and deleted the last recording ("The Fugitive" with Henry Fonda).

Pondering the machine specs, I dug out the original order from 2006 to find it dated, coincidentally, 14 years ago today - 15/10/06. £279 from superfi.co.uk for the 250 GB model in silver. £378 in today's money. In combination with MyStuff, the Topfield has been an excellent solution and still works fine.

It has been superseded by the Raspberry Pi/OSMC arrangement described above, that has been working well for almost a year. Better in many ways, but no UI is as pretty as MyStuff.

Jim.

And another thing!

No components were ever replaced - not even a solitary capacitor.

The oldest recording on the disk was dated January 2010 ! And there were a few more around the same age. It was interesting to watch 2010 adverts. Very different to the modern style, and for sometimes historical products, like the 2010 Blackberry.

Jim.

No crashes in all that time? I have to recover mine from backup at least once a year... Rolling Eyes

Yes there it has crashed occasionally. But then, so do many systems. Never had to recover from backup.

I've owned mine since Feb 2006, in that time it's only crashed ( to the extent I needed to recover it) a couple of times. Once when the PSU went ( replaced caps and fitted a cooling fan), once when my aerial downlead deteriorated and failed (replaced it)
I've had other occasional minor problems, lockups, duff recordings etc but nothing major, mostly sorted out with a reboot and/or a channel scan.
For the majority of the time I've owned it, its been on 24/7, once a day (6am) it shuts down for 20 minutes then restarts does an EPG scan then stays on so it's off for around 40 minutes a day.
Best £249 I've ever spent on a piece of AV equipment, having said that, MyStuff makes it what it is, my congratulations to the team for a brilliant TAP, same to the other TAP authors whose contributions have been equally invaluable. Cool
