Not sure what's going on - Antares sees the Toppy ok, sees the destination drive and then refuses to write to it, no permissions etc. Tried two external USB drives (500Gb originally supplied as FAT32 but Gparted to NTFS) nor to the E: partition of the main laptop drive.

Put a 128Gb USB stick in and that is fine.

What gives?

Sorting out my sister tomorrow and thought I was all set Sad

No idea; it should be able to do 500GB drives
Can you copy files to it from C: drive?

Thanks. If 500Gb/NTFS/FAT32 should work then I've got a corruption or rights issue with cloning, partitioning, or similar.

But over the last couple of days I've transcoded a whole load of .rec files to .mp4 onto those drives both with Linux and Windows 10 using ffmpeg tools.

Maybe just everything needs rebooting but there's a few Gb of files being copied from my Toppy to the the USB stick now so hopefully tomorrow it will all resolve itself.

By the way - the 160Gb Toppy disk you recovered cannot be seen as any bigger than 128Gb even with Gparted. Mystery! I daren't do any more though until I know everything else including the above is sorted.

At the moment I can only get Antares to write to the local C drive, or the attached USB drives, if I "Run as Administrator"

I know I've not needed to do this in the past. Normal file activities behave as expected and as they should.

Sounds as though you need to change the ownership of the disk and/or it's top level directories - somwhere in Properties.

Having said that, W10 has the more stringent security model so you might have to do a lot of googling e.g. google for "w10 unable to write to a disk"
This https://www.diskpart.com/windows-10/the-disk-is-write-protected-windows-10-8523.html might get you started

Totally weird. My computer is a dual boot Linux and Win10Pro (originally Win7Pro which I'm sure had no such issue). Additionally if looking at the drive properties under Recent Items there is a different screen to looking at drive properties under This Computer drives. The Recent Items has a Read Only flag set so I unchecked it on one of the two drives.

Antares worked without issue on my sister's Win10 pro, writing to either drive whether the flag was set or not.

Just to confirm that I had not/have not been experiencing any issues writing to the drives via copy etc and at one stage I had wondered whether it was because I had used Gparted to change from FAT32 to NTFS but my sister's Win10 would disprove that leaving only that there is something different about the way Antares works on my computer. For the moment it can remain a mystery and I'll just remember to "Run as Administrator" on the odd occasion I do transfers despite the fact that my account type is Administrator.
