@macmac

That isn't the fsCheck report; it is just a display of the file header.

To run fsCheck, use the remote and
1) > (between << and >>)
2) Archive
3) << (to display Programfiles)
4) Scroll down to Utilities and press OK
5) Scroll down to fsCheck.tap (may be out of sight) and press OK
6) After exiting fsCheck ( using one of the write results to disk options) use TM Display| fsCheck and paste the output into this thread

@macmac
The report shows several issues that indicate corruption has occurred.

1) A file in the \ProgramFiles folder (MyIngo Log.txt)
2) Files in the top level root folder (EPG.tmp, Settings folder)
3) Invalid characters in a file name (possibly not an issue unless you try to copy the file to a pc)

Additionally (but not a corruption)
4) The /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff folder contains more than 4096 files (4096 is the maximum number of files that a folder should contain)

The MyStuff folder contains so many entries because there was a bug in MS 6.4 that meant it didn't clean up backup files.
I'm guessing that when you used GCBMyStuffInstaller, you didn't allow it to clean up these backups (because it said it would take a long time).

There are two ways to clean up this folder, a clean way and a dirty way.
The clean way is to use the TM Tools |Manage MS backup options to purge the old MS backup files. This will take a long time to do but shouldn't cause any issues (TM deletes files from the bottom of the folder to the top)

The dirty way is to rename the MyStuff folder to MyStuffOLD; create a new MyStuff folder and copy the latest files from MyStuffOLD to MyStuff. The old MyStuff folder can then be deleted (although you will probably have to do this via the native menus). After deleting the folder, you would have to reboot the toppy as the file system is not valid; the toppy is likely to VF&F when the toppy reboots but, hopefully, the file system would be ok after this.

I suggest you bite the bullet and use the clean method (TM| Tool| Manager MS Backups).

Geoff

Note: You could clean up the other issues (1 to 3) but, as these won't cause operational issues, I suggest you just leave them alone.

OK: I 'm doing the 'Clean' method.

Q1: Is its advisable to use the toppy while this is being done (eg: Record/Playback)?
Q2: Can I stop & start the purge?

Many thanks.

You can use the toppy while TM deletes the files.

I can't remember if I provided a cancel button during this cleanup,
If necessary, cancelling by closing TopManager shouldn't be detrimental

Please be aware that the PC may stop deleting the files when the screen saver kicks in and/or the pc hibernates i.e. you may have to move the mouse occasionally and/or use the pc.

OK Geoff.
It's done, took about 15hrs!
It's now showing: 52GB (6%) of space / 29 hrs available for recording.

I tried using my very old Pentium 4 W7 PC,
but it was showing a lot of 'unable to delete...' red warnings.
So I went back to my main PC.

BTW: What are these BU files, BU's of?

Also: Can (do I need to) I do this purge on my 5810?
Does it have the same 'buildup' problem?

And many thanks for your (and everyone else's) help!

Assuming you're running MyStuff 6.4 on your 5810, then yes, there will be a build-up of backup files.

Currently, my 5810 appears to be running: MyStuff 6.4

So I've just looked for the 'fsCheck' category,
at: Tools\Analyze\ProgramFiles\
and elsewhere, and it's not there.

As CCS says, if you are running 6.4 on your 5810, it will suffer the same problem (you get at least one file per day (possibly up to 5, I can't remember). 6.4. never cleans these up.

Suggest you upgrade it to MS 6.6 with GCBMyStuff Installer. Also suggest that you use TM to clean up the files (before or after running the installer) rather than letting the installer do it.

[edit] The installer will add the fsCheck tap [/edit]

fsCheck is a TAP; you'll probably find it in the Utilities folder.

@anthony2l

The log shows that the disk is physically ok.
There has been a minor file system corruption at one stage (MyInfo Log.txt and The Football League Show being in the Root folder). From the name of the file, the football program is likely to have been been there since 2014 i.e. probably no recent issues.

Suggest you use Antares to delete these two files.

Otherwise, all seems fine

Geoff

I've deleted the Log file. The Football League show is in its own Football folder by my reckoning and the recording plays back fine. I wonder if their brevity gives rise to the error reported? They will also be cuts from larger recordings.
