Hi.
First problem post so please be kind!
After much head scratching I bought a TF5800 (facelift version I think) last December. It was brand new still in box 130 Ebay.

After reference to this site I loaded the recommended firmware 5.13.65T and My Stuff 6.1. Everything has worked well up to date.

This morning my wife had watched a half hr. recording and started to watch the next recording when the machine stopped playing and went into a loop of "verifying files & folders" restarting, loading up My Stuff then looping again.

Having checked this site I restarted with O held down and started without My Stuff. The machine is now playing back the recording o.k. and harmony is restored in the household!

It is not used very much, only six recordings on disc. It is in the bedroom and is well ventilated.
What should be my next move? I note that a new version of My Stuff is available.

Thanks for any help offered.

You need to give full details of your setup. But it is possible that the newer version of MyStuff will be give you a more stable system. If you check under Bugs and MyStuff sections of the forum, you will find threads on this sort of occurrence.

There is a bug related to memory usage that causes EPG.mei data to get truncated, which in turn causes MyStuff 6.0 and 6.1 to crash and reboot the machine.

MyStuff 6.2 is more resilient to this problem, but to reduce the likelihood of the cause, it's a good idea to prune your channels down to only those you actually use (i.e. get rid of the paid for, porn, shopping, teaching (unless you're a teacher), childrens (unless you have kids), obscure radio, etc. channels). To recover from the immediate problem, try rebooting holding down 0, and using Altair to delete EPG.mei. You won't have any EPG data in MyStuff for half an hour or so after you reboot normally, but it should avoid the crash.

See the sticky **** MyStuff problems/questions? READ THIS FIRST!! **** and links from it for more details.

Also see Help! in my sig for information on how to set up a forum signature about your machine to help us to help you.

Julie

Thanks for info, I hope I have now got a signature when I post this. I will try the delete EPG.mei fix and see what happens.

Toppy is now up and running well, do I need to do anything else at this point?
Any idea why it had a brain storm, I had done nothing recently it was just playing a recording.
I do live in an area where Toppy gets channels from Wenvoe & Mendip but this has caused no problem, I just deleted the Wenvoe ones and this was some while ago after the DSO.
Thanks,
Bolly

You have 9 Muxes (TX *) showing in your MyInfo Log. I'm on Mendip and I only have 5 !.
You might want to simplify things by rescanning solely on the Mendip transmitter.

My Mux numbers are 54, 56, 59, 61 and 62.

Just had a thought, I have deleted lots of channels so that might reduce the number. Having said that, when I used to run the SignalMonitor tap, it only ever showed 6 Muxes i.e. I think you are still getting some channels from Wenvoe.

(Fewer muxes may mean less work load for the Toppy)

Cheers
Geoff

Thanks Geoff,
I noticed that. 48 is a local transmitter but 41 is as you say, Wenvoe. When I did the rescan after DSO I deleted the ones I didn't want and thought that they were gone.
I think I will do a manual scan for the Mendip Mux's. I think the others were radio which I don't use. Having said that, I have had no problems until to-day.

Often check the forum but my Toppy is still running well after all these years.

Mendip has required a channel rescan and I forgot that I had a recurring record that was to record today, I had forgot to retune Toppy and this resulted in a crash because it was looking at a channel that had moved.

Eventually got it working again but doing a manual retune which is necessary because we can also pick up Wenvoe here.
All went well except Toppy will not tune channel 35. It shows 95% strength but zero quality. My Panasonic TV tunes 35 with no problem.

Any thoughts folks?

If anyone reads my question please forgive an old mans brain.
I forgot that Toppy is not a HD recorder and since channel 35 is all HD of course it would not tune and download anything!!

Like rip van winkle I shall now go back to sleep!

If you really want to test out your brain, install ChannelOrganiser, then you won't need to worry about duplicate channels from different transmitters.

All the answers are hidden here somewhere, you just need to find them. Smile

More retunes are still on the cards.

Assuming you have a windows pc and can connect it to the toppy, install my TopManager program on the pc and use the Tools| Install Files option to install CO and it's associated files. You can also install several other things.

You should also use the Display| MyInfo Log option to retrieve the toppy configuration - copy and paste the output into this thread; this will show whether or not you are missing something else.

My thanks to both of you.

A manual tune is easy enough after a reset so this is what I normally do. Seems that Toppy trying to record from a channel that was no longer there really upset it.

I didn’t realise just how long it had been running without any real problems until I saw the date of my previous post!

When the garden is less demanding I will give your suggestions a go.

Thanks again,
Bolly
