Keep pressing the zero key on the remote when rebooting - no taps will be loaded.

See how it goes tapless.

You could then startup taps one by one and see which one causes the reboot, but I suspect you've still got zero size files to worry about.

Presumably all the files successfully copied across and were nonzero sizes in the Auto Start folder. This would imply that the files are ok and the toppy is having trouble reading the disk

Are you really really sure you have the 80 way ribbon the right way around ? (Check with andyfras which side the coloured wire should be on - assuming it has one)

You could always post the box to andy and ask him to sort it out.

Geoff

Hi

If I navigate to AutoStart and try to load taps individually.

I get the following results

1 seccache UK. No obvious impact
2. Extend. No obvious impact
3 Font Manager. No obvious impact
4 FwLoad. No obvious impact
5 EIT Sub ( Game). No obvious impact
6. EPG2MEI. Reeboot
7 MHEGONOFF. No obvious impact
8 MyInfo. Reboot
9 MyStuff. No obvious impact
10 fsSave. No obvious impact
11 Prune EPG. Reboot

Utilities

TAP Commander. Opens
Signal Monitor. Dialog appears, but then reboots
FwLoad. Opened and ran !! Installed new firmware
Successfully updated firmware
MHEGONOFF. No obvious impact
Serial Transfer. DIDN'T TRY THIS
Channel Organiser Dialog flashed up very briefly, then reboot
fsSave. No obvious impact
fsCheck. Opens (specifies Files crosslinked MyStuff_Searches .day and TV STREAMING.rec - the above files share one or more clusters)

HDD Info. Opens

It seems as if the reboot happens after tap which may require access to channels.

I have also noticed in the native toppy channel list ( i.e. List button on remote) there are a lot of channels listed by yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy (i.e all y's with umlauts above them)

What is the status of your original disk?

If it is working (when you boot without taps), I suggest you fit it and use it to run ChannelOrganiser so that you can scan for channels. Hopefully, that will remove the yyyyyy....yyyy channels.

You shouldn't have any cross-linked files, refit that disk to the pc and use TopfHDRW to delete both files (I'm assuming it will cope with it).

Strictly speaking you probably want to get a copy of MyStuff_Searches.dat from your snapshot but there is no point doing that will you have so many other issues.

Having scanned for channels (using the old disk), refit the disk that the cross-linked files were on and boot it up tapless (hold 0 while it reboots - until picture shows). Then navigate to Auto start and start EPG2MEI (nothing else)
Assuming that works, wait 20 minutes and then start up MyStuff

Coming back to your disk/adaptor; I don't want to reread the whole thread again :
1) Did you get the adaptor from andyfras? If not, where from?
2) Did you get the 80 way cable from andyfras? If not, how long is it, how many plugs does it have and have you drilled one end?

Geoff

Hi Geoff

The original disc is working.

Ok I'll try that.

I did get the adaptor and cable from Andy.

Did andy write on the cable which way round it went? (I think he did on mine - but I can't find it now)

Yes he wrote on the cable, so it's fitted the correct way around.

Permission to say hurrah.

HURRAH

Ran Channel Organiser with old disc

(I did have a problem running channel Organiser at first, toppy just rebooted.
So I used List on remote and red button to delete all channels with strange looking channel descriptions. Then ran Channel Organiser, it ran OK.)

Channels updated.

Native EPG now populated with program info.

Installed new disc.

EPG2MEI ran OK
Started My stuff 6.6 no obvious action.
Ran MyInfo OK

Closed down toppy and restarted.

FwLoad started up and updated firmware.

But everything seems to be working fine.
Mystuff EPG working
Mystuff archive working, I can play existing recordings and make new ones.
Mystuff text searches operating(set one earlier and it worked. i.e recorded and played OK)

Only quirk
I performed snapshot (twice) as soon as I could, and the same 4 files would not save fsSave20190311.bin, fsSave20190312.bin, ChannelOrganiser.tap and ChunkyYABS.mcf

Asside

I also ran fsCheck on original disc, not sure if this was the first time I'd done it, but dialog box said 5 things were in root directory which shouldn't be there ! They were :
Settings folder
EPG.tmp
Logs folder
PcControl folder
PccCommandFile.txt

I tried using topfHDRW to delete these but I couldn't get the option to do that, no matter how I tried.

So tried to use Altair, however all I could see was pc disc, left pane was blank.

Just wondered if it might have been these misplaced files which were the root cause of my problem or maybe the crossed file issue using the same clusters may have been the cause.

I think I've had my toppy since 2003/4 and don't want it to die, it's so versatile.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread, thanks to Andy for supplying working adapter and cable, but especially to Geoff for spending so much time and guiding me through the software side. It's been a bit of a marathon but fingers crossed ity finally sorted.

Cheers

Sounds like you are getting there

The files in the root folder of the original disk indicate a file system corruption at some point (but this might not be recent).

TopfHDRW should have been able to delete them !
You would need to put the original disk in the toppy if you want to delete these files with Altair (I suggest you don't bother or at least wait until you have established that the new disk is working properly). Also, only one program can connect to the toppy i.e. Altair won't work if something like TopManager has connected to the disk (TM will warn you, Altair won't).
These "misplaced" files wouldn't have caused your issues; more likely the dodgy channels.

Please post your current MyInfo LOg (TM Display| MyInfo log)

Geoff

Hi

I'm not particularly bothered about the old disc now, I only put that Asside note to maybe help clarify for future similar problems.

I did notice fsCheck dialog box stated FAT does not terminate properly.
Start a recording and stop after 30seconds.

Then a Note: If you terminate recording too early it may result in cross linked files.

My very first post the problem originated after a recording had terminated / picture frozen.

Anyway here is MyInfo log

That looks fine apart from some channels you don't need (261, 263, 265, 266, 269, 270, 271, porn 675 to 699)

MUx 56 looks like a local mux (only 3 channels); worth deleting them if they don't interest you (local muxes used to broadcast at a low strength - not sure if this still applies)

I haven't checked all the other channel numbers

Hi

I have now been up and running for over a week now and everything seems fine.

I have deleted all unwanted channels, uploaded my channel favourites file and am just familiarising myself with the latest functionality, and customisation, particlarly the new search options.

Thanks again to all who contributed.
Cheers
