Hi Steve

Thanks, but I really only needed the output of TM "Display| MyInfo Log"

You must resolve the duplicate channels. Actually, their presence implies that you are doing the tuning manually and this is almost always going to lead to errors.
You should only ever scan for channels using the ChannelOrganiser tap (in /Programfiles/Utilities) or the TM PCControl| Channel Management option. Both these methods eliminate duplicates by scanning a single transmitter (plus doing lots of other things including performing the Reset). They also remember channels that you have deleted making rescans much easier. Both share the same data files so changes made in one will be seen in the other.

Suggest you perform a rescan using one of these methods; you will need to know your local transmitter (looks like you are using Crystal Palace with LTM but it could be somewhere else)
If you don't want anything on the local mux then I suggest you just use Crystal Palace i.e. don't add the LTM (local muxes used to be broadcast on low power- perhaps not a problem nowadays, and this could lead to a poor quality signal leading to a corruption of the toppy file system; corruption = loss of everything on the disk).

Note: if you use the TM method, you will have to use Tools| Install Files| PcControl, PcControl| Channel Management, Detect My Transmitter and "at least 4"
If you use CO, choose the transmitter from the displayed list.

Both methods allow to to delete categories of channels, e.g. Shopping, Porn, etc for TM PcControl, right click in the display to see the options

As well as rescanning, use the provided methods to delete unwanted channels. Previously, users have been advised to keep the combined number of TV and Radio channels down to around 40, but, probably because of my PruneEPG tap, you should be able to keep about 65 TV + as many radio as you want to keep.

Finally, when you think you have it right do a TM Display| MyInfo Log and paste into this thread.

Then set a forum signature (TM Tools| Update Forum Profile); this will help others provide advice should you post with further problems.

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

In too late this evening after a long day at work, so no time to to look at your reply.

I searched for channels by using the Toppy menu-installation.

Off to sleep now, as another early morning.

Thanks for your long posting, Steve zzzz

Hello again Geoff,

I've had mixed results with TM. I think I correctly re scanned for new channels. But there were aspects that are not clear to me. I need to revisit.

I have also had some file corruption. Even after all the reformatting.

Work have been busy so I've had little time available which hasn't helped.

I writing this as I don't want you to think that I am ignoring your advice.

Cheers, Steve

Can you post your MyInfo Log in this thread (use "TM| Display| MyInfo Log" and cut and paste, as before)?

Can you also please run my fsCheck tap and post it's results in the dedicated fsCheck Reports thread?

Geoff

To run fsCheck
1) > on remote (between << and >>)
2) Archive; displays native list of recordings
3) press << (displays ProgramFiles)
4) Scroll down to Utilities and press OK
5) Scroll down to fsCheck.tap and press OK
6) follow screen instructions to save the report
7) TM Display | fsCheck Report

The MyInfo log looks fine apart from you having too many channels Note: this assumes that you tuned to the correct transmitter + do you really want 2Cool

Suggest you use TM| PcControl| Channel Management to delete unwanted channels
1) Right click in the list of displayed channels and select an appropriate option e.g. Pay, Porn, Shopping etc. This will mark unwanted channels for deletion
2) Scan through the list selecting any other channels that you have no inteerest in
3) Delete Channels
4) Finalise

Having reduced the channels, you can (if you wish) set up a favourites file of the channels you typically watch and in your own display order (TM| PcControl| Manage Favourites ?). You might want to create a new favourites list e.g. OurTV or MyTV (don't forget to modify the MyStuff option to say that this is your default list)

Re fsCheck, looks like you managed the first option successfully! - you just didn't do the 2nd option (press Archive). Step 1 is just to gain access to the native toppy functions i.e. to prevent MyStuff processing the key strokes

When you say you have file corruption, what are you experiencing?

Geoff

Hello Geoff,

I've had some more time today than in the week's evenings to respond better to your request for logs etc. Also, not a tired after long working and commuting (poor excuses Smile ). Earlier in the week I did not fully comprehend what I needed to do to run fscheck.

I have just posted an fscheck log in that page on this forum.

I have also deleted many TV channels and 'finalised' that.

I have NOT set up 'favourites' in case I introduced errors, if wanted I'll try that another time.

I did notice that when I had finished and I 'closed' the Toppy connection the Toppy indicated OFF on the display, not the time as normal. There was no response to the remote. I powered off then on and it all seemed back to normal. I did not expect this behaviour.

When I referred to file corruption, I had the onscreen message about files damaged (sorry I can't recall the word verbatim) and I had the on screen box with dots cycling around for a few minutes.

Also this week, I had two recording that on 3 of the 30 minutes were recorded. I have photographed the screen, but do not know how to post it here for viewing.

Thank you again for your help. Have a good weekend, Steve

The disk seems physically ok (see response in fsCheck thread)

The toppy shouldn't go off when you close the connection.
Suggest you measure the voltages across the capacitors - hopefully andyfras can tell you if they are ok.

I suspect the message you received was a "verifying files and folders"; this occurs if the toppy restarts without being properly shut down. When this happens, any in progress recordings typically show in MS as bad recordings rather than as short recordings.

Would like to see the latest MyInfo log

Geoff

Thank you again Geoff,

I could measure the voltages within the unit; bit of a fiddle to partially dissemble though.

Goo d that the fscheck log reported nothing of concern and thanks for looking at that for me. I will set a reminder to run another in, say, a month.

I have just taken another log and I am posting this below:

That looks (ok assuming you want the channels in the 200-249 range).

Should you ant to create a signature for your posts (it helps others provide support):-
1) Display| MyInfo Log
2) Tools| Update Forum
3) Build
4) Update

Geoff

I will do that Geoff, however I am now writing from my desktop PC, that logs me into this forum automatically. I interroge the Toppy from my laptop, that does not automatically log me in.

I cannot recall my password. I have looked at my profile with the intention of changing my password, but the option is not there. As it states:
"You must confirm your current password if you wish to change it or alter your e-mail address"

Is there a way around this?

Thank you, Steve

Your password is stored in a cookie called phpbb2mysql_data

However, you will have to google how to find /access this (windows protects all cookies so you have to make them visible first). I think this is stored in plain text.

There are a couple of other cookie files of the form geoff@forum.toppy.org.uk and geoff@www.toppy.org.uk (replace Geoff with something appropriate to you windows login name).
I think you probably want the one on the first line of this post.

I suspect the easiest thing is to login to the forum via the laptop and say you have forgotten your password to get a new one (it might even give you your current one)
Then log out on the desktop and login back in again with the new password.

Another option, if you have previously set the signature from your desk top is to look for the Topmanager.ini file (on my Win10 system it is in"C:\Users\gcbac\AppData\Local\gbacon\TopManager")

Geoff

If your using Firefox then your password should be stored in Firefox. Go to Firefox/Settings/Prvacy/ Manage Logins and use the search to find the login, you can then select view password and see what it is
