My sister saw a message about the need to retune and ended up doing a factory reset.

Before I attempt to give her any instructions or go over there or get her to bring the machine over here can I check:

1) The latest Mystuff was installed. Will it still be there? Will it load up automatically?

2) Are there any other gotcha's? For the moment I've told her to switch off and not switch on with the aerial disconnected.

The Toppy did have Channel Organiser all set up and I assume to Waltham (the main choice is Belmont but she wants Central not Yorkshire). If those settings are still there I can talk her through a retune but presumably the Toppy will have to go through its native setup first?

Just to add to the woes I've just received this message from my sister:

"Ok. I'd switched off the power then on again , still locked to the
installation screen and not responding to any exit or menu button."

Factory reset doesn't delete any files on the hd - just avoid format hd at all costs.

It'll need a retune after a factory reset, CO should still be there.

Poor reception can corrupt the disc and force you into the situation you see now, so don't be surprised if everything has gone.

If you're not tuning to the recommended transmitter then reception is likely to be a problem, particularly with the weather conditions at the moment.

From the depths of my memory, this is the normal situation if no channels are tuned in. She should be able to access the automatic tuning option from there. But I haven't used a Topfield for years, so may be wrong.

Initially, she will need to use the native tuning mechanism so that it won't be locked in to the system menus.
She will then need to rescan using CO.

As others have said, no files should have been affected (unless she has also corrupted the file system) - which I can repair).

Geoff

Thanks Geoff but as per my second post the Toppy seems now to be frozen.

Reflashing with emptysettings is effectively just a factory reset.....

Waiting for a scan of channels!
This is normal after a reset
