Is there any way to improve padding on back to back recordings on the same channel when nothing else is recording?

A few recordings come up that I want to export to USB that are in the guide back to back. They're stuff on channels like Citv that have a relaxed attitude to broadcast times and they end up getting their starts or ends cut off because even when mystuff schedules them on different tuners it leaves the padding off between them.

I know there's merge back to back recordings (K9) but I prefer to have that switched off, as when it's on I always run out of space because I don't get around to watching one half of all the merged recordings I get.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The Merge feature *is* the solution to your problem unless you have another PVR and use that to record the second B2B programme.

Suggest you post both your MyInfo Log file (your signature is "old") and your MyStuff Export Settings

If you have K9 set to 'No', the pre and post padding settings K1 and K2 should still work on the two recordings from the separate tuners, unless you have them set to 0.

You can adjust K1 and K2 to a wide range of values (though the MS manual says to avoid multiples of 5). Whatever values you set must be duplicated in the extend.ini file for the Extend TAP.

Code:
[Control]
PrePad = x
PostPad = y
where x and y are the values set into K1 and K2.

The alternative is to have Merge on and manually go in and force one of the potential recordings to do it at a different time by pressing White and selecting "Record at a different time (if possible)". If it's on a channel with a +1, it often switches to that option (if it's turned on), or to a different recording during the night (though these may be signed). I do that with recording I might want to keep, and I used to do it when I was short of space, along with pruning the few minutes off the beginning and end of recordings

Cut file?

http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12188

Someone who has used it will need to advise, or try it out on merged recordings you've finished with.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

I'll check on the multiples of 5 when I get home. Also, having to set the extend.ini file is something I probably forgot over the years.

Will do when I got home. I tickled it last night to reflect MS 6.6 but I'll update it properly later.

We gave up on merge years ago. We tend to record whole series then binge watch them. Ending up with 8 hours of watched programs getting left on the disk because we hadn't got around to watching the 30 minute programs they were merged with left us running out of space all the time.

You can split the merged recording and delete the part you no longer want. It is a faff but is doable.
