There is a file that is only visible in "MyStuff" , it is not seen by native file manager or by Antares or Top Manager from my old XP laptop.

I can move and play the file in MyStuff, and can try and delete it. However next time I reboot it comes back.

Any ideas?

Is it part of a merged recording?

No it isn't as far as I know, is there a way of checking?

The file will be there somewhere, Antares will see it.

If you've not opted to merge consecutive programmes (on the same channel) using MyStuff, then it won't be merged.

Merged: EastEnders followed by Holby will have a single file called Eastendersxxx, but Holby will be recorded at the end of the file called Eastendersxxx.
The file will exist in Mystuff until both programme references have been deleted.

You seem to be seeing the opposite. When you say "file", do you mean programme?

The programme may be protected (something you would have had to do), but the dialogue would tell you it can't be deleted until you unprotect it.

If it's a merged recording, it'll have a little chain link symbol next to it. Except when things get broken Smile

What exactly IS the file (a screenshot would be good)? Is it in the recycle bin? How long does MyStuff think it is? What happens when you play it? Press Play and see how many programme start/end markers you see in the native playbar.

I have seen logically deleted files (which will have a .del suffix if you look with Antares) come back after a restart sometimes.

Its a program file, what I'll do is have a good look through the folders and see if it crops up anywhere.

It has a few program markers, is about 30 mins long but Mystuff thinks it longer.

As everyone else keeps saying, it sounds like it is part of a chained recording.

Try pressing the List button when it is playing (or whatever you have configured the option S6 option to); this should show you the other programmes that are in the same physical file.

OK mystery solved, its actually a Frasier episode that seems to contain some meta info for both Frasier & Big Bang Theory. Its not part of a merged recording, for some reason the recording went on for an hour instead of the normal 30 mins.

The file lives in the "Frasier" directory, but MyStuff also displays it as a separate file, originally in a "Big Bang Theory" folder.

Its a feature of mystuff I didn't know about.

The it IS part of a merged recording. 30 minutes of Big Bang Theory, and 30 minutes of Frasier, logicially identified by MyStuff as two programmes, but physically in one recording file (so you should see the chain/link icon to the left of the programme name).

Interestingly, and I don't know if it is connected with this, I have seen the odd case where two programmes have been chained (merged) and whilst the whole thing has recorded, there is only one MyStuff entry in the archive lists.

So, for example, there would be "A" of 30mins and "B" of 60mins and it shows up as "A" (or perhaps "B", I forget) of 90mins.

@albertd

Although there is only one physical file, MS stores two entries in MyStuff_RecordedInfo.dat (one for each part).
I suspect one of these entries was deleted/lost from the file, and when MS next started, it would validate the remaining entry and change it's duration to the whole file. The physical file would still contain both programmes and the book marks would still be present ( bookmarks are stored in the recording header of the file i.e.bookmarks are native "Toppy" and not specific to MS
