Last Sunday our TF5800 froze while it was recording Poldark, stopping the recording at just over thirteen minutes. Since then there has been a problem with the MyStuff settings that I can't resolve.

I customised a few MyStuff settings, but since the freeze the QuickJump settings are not what I set them to. For instance, I set the red button to -30sec, but now when I press it it jumps forward 180sec. When I use it a little box opens on the screen saying +3min. The others are also wrong, but the settings in MyStuff show what I set them to.

I tried re-installing MyStuff and I did a factory re-set of the box, but the problem remains.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I dont think that box is displayed by MyStufff.
Are you sure you have no other TAPs which provide QuickJump facilities?

I realise that the box isn't a MyStuff box.

I used Geoff's TopManager to have a look at the installed TAPs and QuickJump TAP is there. Should I delete it?

I use QuickJump in preference to those in MyStuff. This is because it gives more control over what happens. Iit also allows use of the big arrow buttons (around the centre OK); I use these for + or - four minutes and + or - one minute (give or take).

For QJ to work, it needs to see the key presses before any other tap that might want them. In this case, it needs to load before MS (from your description it is loading first).

You can use TM to get at the QJ configure screen :-
1) PCControl| Show Menus
2) PcCOntrol| Tap Commander
3) Select QJ and click the Configure button
4) Use the toppy remote to select your options.

I suggest you set the coloured buttons to the values that you want and then set MS to the same value. Just bear in mind that MS won't ever see these keypresses because QJ will gobble them up first (only suggesting set same values in MS because less confusing).

If you decide not to use QJ, I suggest you rename it into \ProgramFiles or back into \ProgramFile\Utilities (use the native archive mechanism or drag and drop in TM| Connection | Browse).

Quickjump has more features (including showing how far you've jumped), and I use it in preference to the jump settings in MyStuff.

One thing that QJ can do that MS can't is binary jumps - if you jump in the opposite direction to the last jump, it halves the jump, making it easy to do quite large jumps, and them home in on the spot you want - I have my initial jump for this set to 4 min, so if I jump forward twice, that's 2x 4 = 8 minutes forward, then 1 back is 2 minutes, 1 forward is 1 minute, another forward is another 1 minutes, 1 back is 30 seconds, etc. I use the left and right buttons for binary jumping.

Obviously for the Quickjump settings to work, Quickjump has to be loaded before MyStuff.

Personally, I wouldn't delete it - just be aware that your MyStuff jump settings are irrelevant if you're using QuickJump, and learn what QuickJump can do.

I tried the QJ binary jump but reverted back to 4 and 1 minute (ish) jumps - you can press a key more than once to "accumulate" the jump.

It doesn't matter which method you adopt - most of the jumps you use will require a similar number of presses

I find that ITV adverts are normally about 4 mins 10 secs so my big jump is set to that. I don't make the back jumps exact opposites to the forward jumps e.g. +4:10 but -4:00 say.

Because of the way the GOPS work, a backward jump is normally shorter than you think it will be anyway.

Personally, I have three assorted forward jumps on the coloured buttons, and a small backward one. (That's where the binary jumps come into their own - for large backward jumps when you accidentally jump forward far too far.)

But you're right - just pick what works for you and use it.

Thanks Geoff and Julie

I had a look at QJ yesterday evening. It certainly has more options than the MyStuff jumps and I will use it in future. I like Geoff's idea of a four minute forward jump to skip the adverts.

Geoff:

The reason why I have only just discovered QuickJump is linked to the machine's feeze while it was recording last Sunday's Poldark. After the freeze your fsCheck TAP reported a problem, so I used TopManager to sort it out. One of the checks said that QJ should run before Mystuff, so I re-organised the TAPs accordingly. Hence my discovery of QuickJump.

Thank you for all the work that you do to help us and support our Toppies.

@fhjones

Thanks for the thanks!

I've had great fun programming stuff for the toppy (it keeps my skills alive). I would also like to thank all the others on the web site who have posted and/or helped me; without a forum like this, I wouldn't have gained enough knowledge to create my program/taps.

Cheers
Geoff
