I have my TF5810 hooked up to my new Samsung UEB7020 40" LED TV using the HDMI connections. I get picture only at 576p and 720p resolutions but no sound in any case. I rooted around the internet and came across a band-aid solution which involved disconnecting the HDMI and powering off the Toppy for a while and it seemed to work temporarily but now no dice. I've checked the TV audio settings and used different HDMI cables, no dice.

Speaking to Samsung, I'm told the TV only accepts HD via the HDMI link and the Toppy was passing only SD. Conveniently forgetting the picture was being passed without any problems of course, they wanted me to use a SCART link instead. I'm reluctant because using SCART (via an adaptor)will make it impossible to maintain the flush fitting for this very slim TV.

I'm surprised this is not a more common problem noted here. Any thoughts?

No idea about the Samsung TV but I have a Philips LCD TV and it is fed via HDMI and both sound and vision work great. No configuration was required, it just worked

Same with my Sony LCD tv. It's fine.

I have heard that some manufacturers implementation of the HDMI standard is somewhat lacking. That could be the route cause of your problem.

UPDATE: I upgraded the official firmware that came with the box TF5810PVR_457_5.15.09Plus to the recommended one from this site TF5810PVR_457_5.15.09T and all is well now with audio on the HDMI link.

I can only assume the HDMI handshake implementations was updated between firmware versions to cater for the newer generation of TVs.

5.15.09+ and 5.15.09T are based on the same base firmware from Topfield. The difference is the T version has more patches. Basically R2 fixed it!

UPDATE ...

And doh!

I find switching OFF/ON the TV restores the sound.

Must be a compatibility niggle with this particular TV model (see other niggle here)
