I somewhat belatedly got around to installing BX10 in Auto Start today on my main 5800 and my 5810 (which is used primarily as a test machine). My Toppy has just recovered from a power cut, and confused the **** out of me by going all quiet after a while. Then I realised that the VF&F had taken long enough to make CO run interactively once the VF&F had finished on my 5800's 1.5TB drive. The 5810 was fine.

Could you increase the post-startup timeout a bit please?

Thanks
Julie

I've had this problem as well and I'm using a 233 GB disk with 207 GB free.
I have now removed this version of CO from Auto Start as I would rather it came up after a VF&F instead of waiting for me to press Exit to terminate CO without using it (the channels do exist so I don't know eactly why it would want to do any work anyway)

Presumably because it's long enough after startup to make CO think you're running it interactively. I assume (from the manual) that it runs silently (or rather, "invisibly") in the case that you really have lost your channels on reboot.

I knew that; just couldn't remember it!

Anyway, in my experience, almost any VF&F is going to bring it up and my toppy is almost empty.

I thinks its just a question of what you want to collect EPG data - all channels or just Favourites (as the new version of CO assumes). Please respond to my post there.

It will close itself after a minute if you don't respond. Will increase the time-from-boot limit to 4 minutes, which surely should be adequate. There was also logic to prevent running in "invisible" mode when less than 3 (now 4) minutes of previous run, but there was a bug in this. However hoping for a better solution from my post in the TAP development section!

We had another power cut last night, and I went to bed before the power came back on. This evening, when I came home and switched on the lounge TV, the CO screen was still showing. I ran MyInfo, and it confirmed that the Toppy had been on for 20 hours.

So I unplugged and did a controlled test.
Code:
03:18 VF&F reported it had finished
03:50 Channel Organiser UI appeared
20:00 Gave up waiting for it to time out!  Pressed Exit
MyInfo started running (also interactively, of course)

So the 1 minute timeout isn't working, I'm afraid.

Here's the MyInfo log from immediately after this exercise.

Hi, I have just tested this new version, but it reboots the toppy and goes to verify files & folders, anybody know why this would be?

Can you please be a little more specific - how far did it get before crashing - up to the scan menu for example? If so, what were you trying to do?

Version B2RC1 is now available from here.

The major changes include:

? Warning screen added when no "Freeview.dat" found
? Bug in TF5000 Display TAP channel file generation fixed
? Re-arrangement of EPG2MEI restart to avoid stopping before it is properly established (Otherwise can get crashes)
? Logging changed to give separate files for manual and at-boot operation
? Addition of wildcard feature in "Freeview.dat" file to cope with regionalised names
? Addition of screen showing "Freeview.dat" errors

which I hope addresses the issues raised above.

Feedback please.

Great Tap - thanks for all the hard work!

I've just gone thru' the manual (gasp) and can I ask the first daft question...

Am I right in saying it now allows you to edit the Freeview.dat file when, say, an additional channel is found?

Sorry - it just displays the errors/omissions for you to edit the file - e.g. by copying to PC, edit with Notepad, and copy back to the Toppy. It does, however, re-read the file when you exit the display of errors.

That's fine - it's one of those situations which might not crop up for a long time.

Probably about a week before the next new channel appears, though you won't know till you decide to rescan! With the new Freeview.dat error screen you will be advised that the new channel is not in the file, and it is then up to you whether you want to live with that omission. Without a file entry, it will not be automatically selected for deletion if it is Web TV (which you can't watch/record with the Toppy) or if it is one of the categories you wish to delete (e.g. porn). You may also get problems with configuration files.
