Make sure you have an up to date Freeview.dat file (the MyStuff installer should have taken care of that), and use Channel Organiser TAP (in /ProgramFiles/Utilities) to regenerate the EPG2MEI.ini file (and all other relevant config files) for you. Alternatively, connect your Toppy to a Windows PC and use TopManager to do the same thing.

Julie

Not sure I have the latest in the installer, I will check.

Shouldn't the installer fetch it automatically from EMJB's site? (it could still have an old one in the just in case it couldn't retrieve it)

Right, I've found out what's going wrong...

I'm using the test version of CO, but I assume the same problem happens with the original release.

I'm using the latest version of freeview.dat

CO creates this version of EPG2MEI.ini

Code:
# File updated by  Channel Organiser B2X10 on 10/7/2013 at 15:37

[Control]
Output=EPG  # Note: this is temporary and the output will eventually be EPG.mei
EuroDST
External=MyStuff
Demangle
MergeExt
UseExtGenre
#AddExtendedInfo
StripDups
Debug=Off
DescSeparator=
DescTerminator=

[Include]
1-7
9-10
13-15
24
28-31
33

[Restrict]
9=1900-0530
12=0700-0300
20=0800-0130
25=1100-1400
30=0600-0000
31=0600-0400
44=0400-0100
There must be an error somewhere, because lots of channels no longer have programme info in the epg.
It's probably the include section.

This version of EPG2MEI.ini works fine....

Code:
[Control]
Output=EPG  # Note: this is temporary and the output will eventually be EPG.mei
EuroDST
External=MyStuff
Demangle
MergeExt
UseExtGenre
#AddExtendedInfo
StripDups
Debug=Off
DescSeparator=
DescTerminator=

R2-D2 told me a long time ago that the include section is not required (EPG2MEI automatically includes all channels unless they are Excluded)

The restriction times, if you have any entries, should match those in Freeview.dat.
Removing the restriction entries means that EPG2MEI will assume that EPG data is valid for the whole day. I believe the only requirement for restricted times was that some channels, broadcasting on both Sat and Freeview,) provided 24 hour EPG data but didn't provide full 24 hour coverage on Freeview. In this case, adding the restrictions prevents the toppy trying to record a nonexistent program.

That's all well and good, but CO created the ini file, not me, and there's something wrong with it.

Channels in use......

Code:
LCNs of programme channels found on Tx Ch 22 are: 1, 2, 7, 9, 80, 301, 302, 708,
LCNs of programme channels found on Tx Ch 25 are: 3, 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, 28, 33,
LCNs of programme channels found on Tx Ch 30 are: 10, 20, 25, 27, 30, 31, 38, 44,
LCNs of programme channels found on Tx Ch 53 are: 12, 29, 32,
LCNs of programme channels found on Tx Ch 60 are: 15, 19, 24, 47

Eyeballing the EPG2MEI file looks as though it should work ok and that it has the correct restriction times as specified by Freeview.dat (not quite sure where EMJB gets the times from; I couldn't find them by googling - obviously used the wrong search words).

I'm assuming that you had stopped and restarted EPG2MEI after doing the change (though CO is supposed to do this for you) and/or that you waited 30 minutes after the change (I'm sure you did).

If you have the inclination, you could wipe the EPG files and try to rebuild them without the include lines (repeat with the include lines but no restrictions); this might identify the area that is bad.

Another possibility is that there are bad characters in the file that cause EPG2MEI problems e.g. non printable chars or tabs. However, I wouldn't have thought that this would be an issue unless they were in the top section and were cleaned up when you edited the file.

I did a retune 3 or for days ago on 2 toppies using CO.

I took me until yesterday to check the epg after the OP who started the thread was still having unexplained problems.

Both toppies had loads of missing entries, but I hadn't noticed them, as they happened to be mainly be on the second page of the epg.

The version of EPG2MEI.ini I am now using is the one I'd been using for over 3 years, until I started using CO.

I'll see if I can reproduce the problem.

It would be handy if R2-D2 could confirm this.

This question, posted a year after EPG2MEI was last updated, suggests that INCLUDE is still used.

Just checked my system; it wasn't updating Drama either.
Looking at EPG2MEI.ini, created by CO B2RC2a, it had channels in an include section.
Have run the TM "PcControl| Channel Management| Check Files" option and this has rewritten the file without an [Include] section.
Rebooted toppy and no waiting to see if EPG appears.

It could still be used, if it is there, but not strictly necessary

MS now has EPG for my Drama channel (20).

Looking at the old EPG2MEI.ini, the [Include] section did have entries but didn't specify 20. My guess is that EPG2MEI.ini defaults to include all channels when no [Include] section exists but perhaps only collects data for the specified channels if an Include section does exist.

Have put an [Include] for a single channel (1) in my .ini file, wiped the EPG files and rebooted. After waiting, my EPG only has data for BBC1.
This means
1) EPG2MEI only collects data for channels specified in an [Include] sectiom
2) It collects for all channels if the [Include] section is missing
3) It does not collect data for channels in the [Restrict] section unless they are also mentioned in the [Include] section (or the [Include] section is mssing)
4) Anything in the [Exclude] section overrides entries in the [Include] or [Restrict] sections (not tested, based on what R2-D2 previously told me)

The solution is therefore to delete the [Include] section and it's contents (or use TopManager which does it anyway).

Ran CO with no Includes in the ini file. No scan, delete without review and update config files. Came up with missing includes as before..
Code:
# File updated by  Channel Organiser B2X10 on 14/7/2013 at 16:37

[Control]
Output=EPG  # Note: this is temporary and the output will eventually be EPG.mei
EuroDST
External=MyStuff
Demangle
MergeExt
UseExtGenre
#AddExtendedInfo
StripDups
Debug=Off
DescSeparator=
DescTerminator=

[Include]
1-7
9-10
13-15
24
28-31
33

[Restrict]
9=1900-0530
12=0700-0300
20=0800-0130
25=1100-1400
30=0600-0000
31=0600-0400
44=0400-0100
Ran again, again with no Includes in the ini file, this time with a scan first, came up with exactly the same.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 38, 44, 47, 80, 301, 302, 708

The [Includes] are being put in by CO when it rewrites the file (I believe it just discards any entries that you have there and builds a new list based on the detected channels).

EMJB just needs to modify it so that it removes any existing [Includes] section.

I'll now leave it to EMJB to take further.

Well this has set off on a tangent from my original post!.

Anyway having deleted the relevant .ini file both MM and drama have full epg's now after the toppy rebooted, so I have solved my problem.

Not sure if I now have the opposite problem thouh with programs there only available on satelite, I will have to check.

I didn't notice the channel manager tap, I have used favourite manager or similar name for years and that also allows custom times to be entered for restricting the time search on part time channels.
