Hi all, I have a question regarding the screensaver in MyStuff:

If I pause live TV, the screen saver (bouncing balls for instance) stutters a lot. But if I un-pause and then pause again, the screen saver is ultra smooth. It's almost as if there's a difference between pausing live TV and pausing time shifted TV.

I have tried unloading all TAPs except Mystuff which didn't appear to make any difference.

Hi Clare, and welcome to the forums.

It might be helpful to know a bit more about your setup. With all TAPs back in Auto Start as normal, reboot your Toppy, and MyInfo will generate a log file that you can copy back to your PC and paste here. Alternatively, use the Windows TopManager program to automate the process (which also automates setting up a forum signature containing a potted version of this information).

See ** Everything you ever wanted to know about MyStuff ** for more details of these and other useful tips and tricks.

Guessing blind, it might be the case that if you switch off Interactive Services in the main Toppy Menu that the screen saver behaves properly in all circumstances.

Julie

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the reply and the welcome Smile

I didn't think about interactive services, that may be the thing that's only applicable when watching live TV. The screen saver behaves perfectly when time shifted and when watching recordings. I will try turning it off post haste when I get home tonight.

Toodles,
Clare.

Interactive Services slow everything down horribly on a Toppy, and are best switched off. If you need them for any specific purpose, there are TAPs that can automagically switch it back on for the duration.

Drat, Interactive services were already turned off.

Anyway, I have used MyInfo and attached the signature, can anyone see anything wrong there at all?

Clare.

I have noticed this problem from time to time but hadn't investigated. At the risk of trivialising your problem - although it doesn't look as pretty the screensaver function still serves its purpose and I haven't noticed any other obviously related ill-effects.

I found a solution, my boyfriend also has a 5800 and he didn't have the problem, after looking at the logs from his machine he had a few taps running that I did not. I have now loaded these taps and the problem has gone away. Here's what my tap list now looks like:

Running TAPS:
Slot 0: EPG2MEI v0.96 : Dumps the EPG data to disk as EPG.mei, with changes since last time in EPG_diff.mei
Slot 1: MyStuff 6.3 : UI Replacement
Slot 2: MyInfo B5.5 : Displays & records Toppy basic info
Slot 3: SecCache (UK) v0.4 : Optimal (UK) section caching to reduce the load on the Toppy
Slot 4: EIT Sub (Game) v0.6 : Provides faster, simpler and more robust EIT data collection, except when playing games
Slot 5: TF5000 Display v1.53 : Controls the LED display
Slot 6: TSRCommander 1.5 : Enables config and exit of TSR-TAP's
Slot 7: Font Manager 1.0d : Manage TAP Fonts
Slot 8: Extend v1.7 : Uses the Accurate Recording info to extend recordings (safely)
Slots 9 - 15 not used

As you can see there are now 3 extra taps running (highlighted in red). I have no idea what they do, also I think the response to the remote is better.

Can anyone throw any light on what these 3 taps do?

Clare.

The third one is not so relevant but the first two.basically reduce the work the Toppy has to do - a speedy speed-up!

Wow kewl, looks like they did exactly what they said on the tin then Smile

Now that I have my Toppy all tuned up, I might look at the SDK next as I have been looking for a new software project for ages.

Toodles,
Clare.

My guess is that Eit_Sub (Game) is the one that probably did the trick, but they're all worth having.

Eit_Sub and SecCache are bug-fix / performance TAPs (and are installed by default by the current MyStuff installer);

Extend monitors the "Accurate" broadcast signals, and helps to prevent you losing the end of recordings when programmes overrun (either because the one you're recording overruns, or because something earlier in the day overran, so subsequent programmes are running late, but not late enough for the EPG to have been updated).

You know the thing that baffles me is how come they were not installed on my Toppy. I carried out the full Mystuff install. Oh well, these things are sent to try us.

Thanks folks for the help on this one, you're all stars Smile
