Apart from being able to add taps and one is satelite, what is the difference between the two PVRs.... Sky plus and Toppy.

1) The Toppy does not stop you using half the disk space just so the broadcaster can use it to push unwanted programmes at you. Rolling Eyes

2) There is no subscription fee for a Toppy
3) Sky+ box is cheaper to buy
4) About 300 channels extra on Sky
5) PiP on Toppy
6) Record 2, watch a 3rd on Toppy (with restrictions)...

Glen.

Is that what they call Sky anytime?

What about general functions are they much alike?

The toppy can't read the Sky or Freesat EPG data, this makes setting up a recording difficult unless you use a complex procedure to pull programme schedule data from the internet.

Humax are due to release a Freesat PVR, possibly in July, This will be able to use the Freesat EPG, handle HD (particularly the ITV version), provide support for interactive facilities, and very likely be upgraded for VOD.

It would be nice if Topfield were to introduce a Freesat PVR or atleast make one able to use the Freesat EPG for programme schedule data.

Well, the Myth TV folk have come up with a way of reading the Freesat EIT info, so it may well be possible to make an EPG loader for an SD Toppy.

The OP was comparing the Freeview PVR with Sky+, so this doesn't apply.

I don't think that i made myself very clear. What it is, I might be going over to sky in the near future ( I will miss my Toppy if I do).

Does the Sky HD receiver have twin tuners so that I can still record two and watch one like I do with the Toppy and am I going to miss much apart from the Taps.

I don't think you can transfer programs you have recorded from Skyplus to your PC and onto you iPod & DVD etc.

I have toppy and sky+ HD. I still swear by my toppy the sky is good but any conflicting timers are not always noticed in time you can record two channels but cannot watch a third and in some cases if you turn your box on whilst recording two channels it will crash and end up with only part recordings. The non HD boxes are more reliable but have a terrible epg the HD boxes have a better epg but can be unreliable. Hence the toppy is still my main recorder for SD freebies channels. With the taps and folders customization you can't beat a toppy. Sky should take notes from the My Stuff guys. Now that would be a great box.
