DoctOr I have spoken to Turbosat (Jumbo I'm holding off on the Tubroshat comment until futher evidence) and they think the larger cable is missing... if this is the case they will send one out BUT to save time I don't suppose you would be able to link to a site like Maplins and show me which one I'd need to buy?
Is it like this one?

That looks the right sort of cable but it gives you two different cables. I'm not sure which is best to use so can't recommend which one to get. I just don't know. I bought my Toppy and it still had the warranty seal intact. When I've opened it up I've never made a note on length or type of cable.
I know you don't wish to wait so I hope someone else can recommend which one to use. |

The potential problem with purchasing a cable is its length. Both the 5800 and the 5810 are picky about this. The normal supplied cable is very short. It may well be worth hanging on for one to be sent by Turbosat. |

If turbosat will send it for free or as they offered to send you one, I'd be tempted to wait. That way it should work rather than buying a wrong cable. |

The fact that the cable itself was not in the case should make you even more worried!
I know that it is always exciting to have a new "toy" to play with but, you may well find that excitement short-lived. If you insist in keeping the doppy then my serious recommendation to you is to fit a SATA drive (rather than the PATA drive you've bought). The 5810 gets hot and it has extremely poor ventilation. This is one of its main inherent hardware design faults - not to mention the firmware shortcomings that also affect longevity, performance and reliability. Heat is the greatest enemy of electronic components. The main source of heat in all fan-less toppies, by far, is the HDD. Latest "Green" SATA drives are far more efficient and generate far less heat. They are also quieter than the older PATA drives. A SATA drive requires an additional SATA/IDE adapter and cable in order to be used in the Toppy. You can get all from Amazon thus: Total approx. £67
Of course you can go for a smaller drive and save around £20 and/or source the above (or variations thereof) from other places and save a pound or two.
I have had the above working in a 5800 with no problems! |

Thanks Jumbo
I will keep that in mind.. I did think about it but was a bit concerned by the amount of tapering required but now I'm in the toppy I suppose I shouldnt worry about a little bit more work... like I said I'll keep it in mind
And I also thought I asked for positive vibes |

You just learn to filter it out.

I'll send you some positive vibes. Let us know how you get on and whether you keep the PATA drive.
I know I shouldn't ask but....
Why does Jumbo hate MyStuff? |

That's really unfair and factually untrue! I don't hate either the 5810 or MyStuff - least of all with passion. I did get quite excited when Turbosat started offloading those heaps of junk on eBay and started a thread on that topic saying that I considered the price a bargain and that I'd be getting one. I ended up getting two dead ones - I hated the duff 5810s that I was duped in to buying on behalf of someone else and had to return to Turbosat.
- I hate con artists who take advantage of the ill-informed.
- I hate the fact that some people can educate the abovementioned "ill-informed" and, for convenience, don't.
You might like to say something positive about my meager and positive contribution to forum members too
PS As regards MyStuff - I have always said (and continue to say) that the reason why I don't use it is because every time I have tried (and I've tried EVERY version since inception) and despite the multitude of switches used to make it "lighter", I have found MyStuff too rich/complex/bulky/convoluted/busy for my use and liking. I have never said that others should not use it, nor have I ever denigrated the efforts of the author, the team or supporters. Nothing more and nothing less! |

I apologise if you feel my post was factually incorrect though, and acknowledge that you haven't "said that others should not use it" [MyStuff], nor "denigrated the efforts of the author, the team or supporters".
Let's not turn a light-hearted comment (into which I should probably have inserted a smiley) into a flame war.

Well my 5810 is nearly 30 months old and works fine with freeview+ firmware.
Unfortunately, there will soon be a post from Dumbo telling you that I'm delusional, never even use it, and lie about its capabilities. |
