OT a bit I know, but the basics are similar.

Anyone thought about a pc application to run a simple diagnostics check on a toppy?

It could download MyInfo or SignalMonitor, say, get the user to run it, and then copy the results to the clipboard, so it could then easily be posted.

It could check for out-of-date firmware and do consistency checks.

It could advise the user to boot Tapless if appropriate.

Just a thought, really, but there are lots of posts which would benefit from "Try running TopDiag" first.

@ccs:

I'm working on such a PC program and it is almost complete (famous last words).
It will allow you to:

    1. Connect to one or more toppies via USB or FTP
    2. Browse the \ProgramFiles\ folders
    3. Display common files (MyStuffExports, MyInfo Log, other MyInfo files, PowerManager.ini)
    4. Store per toppy baseline copies of key files (MyStuffExport, MyInfo Log, EPG2MEI.ini and Extend.ini)
    5. Compare current files against baselines (or baselines against baselines)
    6. Update the forum profile signature block
    7. Analyze the \ProgramFiles\ folders & files (to identify misspelled names, wrong locations, orphan files etc)
    8. Check some MyStuff parameters eg R1 and how MS interacts with other Taps
    9. Compare settings in EPG2MEI and Extend.ini
    10. Scan the hard disks looking for Tfdll.dll etc that do not support the USB accelerator patches

The test version all works find on my system; I just need to tidy it off and package it up for distribution (I'll then find some issues so it may take some time to emerge into user land).

Cheers
Geoff

Is there any way your excellent Toppy Updater program could be updated to use the 32 and 64-bit winusb drivers as here http://users.on.net/~henry/antares/ rather than the tfdll files?

I had a quick look as soon as I saw that post. Unfortunately it would involve modifying Aldarin's "TopfieldReceiver" Delphi component (here), and I do not have any experience of playing with that sort of code. To add to the problems, my Toppy & PC are a long way apart and I use a LinkStation rather than a direct connection, so testing would be a problem (and any element of trial and error even worse!).

I am not sure whether Aldarin is active on the Toppy front any more, but I will post somthing in the relevant thread to see if he picks it up.

Thanks EMJB.

This could well be the 64-bit solution we've all been looking for. Very Happy
