I made a fresh order for my TF5810 for the identical set of components I ordered for my TF5800 from Aria.co.uk: 1TB disk, power converter, and (Newlink) SATA/IDE converter. I'd done a search for "Newlink", found this unique component, and the picture was the same for the SATA/IDE converter as the Newlink I already have: see here.

Imagine my surprise and dismay, then, to find I've been sent something different: the IDE connector is now part of the adapter case and it's based on a Sunkist chipset. It works fine in the PC but does not work in the Toppy. I've tried the possible different settings, but no joy. Whether it works is largely an academic thing though, because the huge 1inch long adapter is what plugs into the motherboard IDE connector (and then the cables plug into the back [top] of that!), so I wouldn't be able to get the lid back on the case anyway.

Sad

Oh dear. I have just fallen foul of the same thing. My "Newlink" adaptor arrived today from Aria and it as you say, based on the Sunkist chipset.

Poo.

That's very disappointing Crying or Very sad

CPC seem to be doing the same Newlink one as pictured in the link you gave although it is somewhat more expensive:

Aria have sent me a SATA to IDE Bi-Directional Adapter but it does not say 'Newlink' either. Instead it says it is made by 'Best Connectivity'.

It has a chipset 'Sunplus SPIF223' (as written on the box). I haven't opened it yet as after reading these posts I don't know if it will work.

Sunplus SPIF223 appears in the list of working adapters, but you can't be really sure until you've plugged it in.

Yep, that's what I got too!

Hopefully the one I have just ordered fro MicroDirect is the correct one. Or at least one that works with the Toppy.

TBH I am not sure what to do. My 5810 is still under warranty, about six month left I think. I am concerned about the HDD as quite a few people have had theirs fail on them.

I have bought the Samsung 1TB HDD and, hopefully, the Newlink SATA-IDE adaptor (if the correct one comes).

Should I wait until my Toppy is out of warranty or just go ahead and replace the HDD?

I must add that, touch wood, the Toppy is performing faultlessly at this moment in time and gives NO indication of any impending failure.

I was sent the same adapter that R2-D2 received and from the opening post it seems it will not fit with the cover on so I will have to return it anyway (unopened)

Has anyone spoken to Aria to see if they still have any Newlink adapters left or will be getting some in?

I tried at about 16:50hrs earlier and was on hold for ten minutes at which the message then said their offices were closed.

I would like to order the MicroDirect adapter but not if Aria still have some left.

When I tried MD this afternoon, they were out of stock. However, I added my email address to be informed of when they came back in stock.
When I got home I had an email from MD saying that the had got 2 in stock. I immediate ordered one!

Of course that could be a ploy, but I have ordered it anyway.

I suppose that I should have checked with them first. As we have already found out from Aria, the picture of the product you see may not be the one you get.

Fingers crossed.

I've sent them a query. I'm in no hurry and I'd prefer them to sort it out -- especially since my old order links to this item, a search on "Newlink" brings this item up, the picture is the same, and even the 'manufacturer code' is for the Newlink ("NL-SATADUALADAPT"). Pretty serious error and "stock may vary from item pictured" does not really cover sending something so completely different from a different manufacturer.

Thanks for the warning R2-D2.

I'm another disappointed Aria customer as of this morning. I placed my order in the wee small hours of 19th Oct and this morning I received the same device as everyone else. I have emailed sales@aria.co.uk asking if they have any Newlink ones - I'm not in a great hurry but I don't want the unit the provided as it has no flexible IDE connector for the Toppy's mainboard.

Have a 1.5TB Samsung F2 arriving today from Scan to upgrade a Toppy which I have revived from death by replacing the PSU's caps (unit came from a well know auction site for very little!) It will be replacing my better half's TopUPTV Thomson DTI6300-16 AKA "the hated box". Until then I will continue to be nagged as to why it didn't record something/has deleted a recording yet again

As mentioned above CPC seem to have the Newlink in stock but at a slightly higher price.

I bought my last one for 18,44 from CDL Micro. They still have them in stock. I thought the one from Aria was too cheap to be true and I'm sure it was more expensive than CDL when I last looked back in June/July ... when they had they correct item.

Will wait to hear from Aria and install my earplugs in the meantime Wink

Good news. A NewLink SATA-IDE adaptor arrived this morning from MicroDirect, relieved.
The question still stand though. Do I invalidate the remaining six months of my warranty to fit the new HDD? No current problems but worried that the existing HDD might fail as that does appear to be a weak spot on the 5810.
