[Sf] StandbyFix enables the real standby mode for 5.15.09+ (not 5.14.09+ -- users with a TF5800 have a choice to run a proper firmware, like 5.13.65).

In proper standby the blue LED around the Power button will dim. And if you have a timer set then the little clock icon next to the time will be lit. The Toppy will wake up 5 minutes early for a timer (so you do not need [and cannot use] the [We] patch).

If you try to put the Toppy into standby when a timer is imminent (within 6 minutes) you'll get the "Power Off?" prompt as if it were actually recording, and the normal rules apply (leave it on-screen if you want it to return to standby after the recording).

A small "feature" is that the "Power Off?" prompt will appear if there is a short gap between recordings started from standby. This is harmless.

I have applied this patch and all seems well. TBH I'm not sure what it does. I know the blue LED around the standby button now dims when in standby and the display shows a timer symbol when a timer is set. But what else does it do, if anything?

Smile It turns the whole main unit off, rather than just the disk. Get out a power meter and measure the difference between the "soft" standby of 5.15.X/5.14.X and the real standby using this patch (or 5.13.X).

Is there much point in looking at a 5.14.09+ version?

I found my power meter! According to my meter, the TF5810 idles on 31W when on and doing something. The normal "soft" standby sits on 25W. The [Sf] standby sits on 15W, but with occasional fluctuations (Front Panel checking the time?).

I for one would certainly be interested in a similar 5.14.9+ patch to put it in full standby - I like the Freeview+ features enough to want to stay with 5.14.9+, but with all of the belt tightening at the moment , any savings from a full standby would be great...
