Thanks to R2-D2's patch, I've now had a week free of interrupted playbacks, except for one time when I was using chaseplay. I don't use chaseplay much, as I've always got a backlog of completed recordings to use, and now I've got a good reason to give up using chaseplay altogether (at least until R2-D2 fixes that too).

Thanks R2-D2, and merry Xmas to everyone. Very Happy

@R2-D2

Seeing as you seem to be begging for patch ideas in other threads, have you given up on the CYR problem?

Geoff

Maybe he his taking the approach of not thinking about the elephant in the room and waiting for the "flash" of inspiration. Smile

I have just had a strange manifestation of this problem. I had set 2 consecutive programmes to record on one channel and another programme to record on a second channel starting at the same time as the 2nd programme on the first channel. I was watching the first channel live and (almost expectedly) got a CYR which changed to the second channel. Then immediately got another CYR which changed back to the original channel.

I am running firmware 5.13.65 with no TAPs

Apologies for missing this post (the forum's "New Posts" thing obviously has a good deal of issues..).

I'm fairly clear on what to try next, but it needs a good stretch of Toppy testing time with no recordings -- and during this festive period I've had little of either, let alone the combination of the two! Smile

Just been trying to find the code containing the bug across a variety of firmwares for different models, and so far I've only found one real difference: in the TF5100PVRcHDMI-12416-2007Nov12.tfd firmware they appear to have spotted the error and attempted to fix it (in a different way to what I was going to do). I'm going to see if we can use this approach... but I do wonder why these significant fixes are not shared between firmwares for different models... (there's not a sniff of this change in the recent TF5800/TF5810 firmwares that were temporarily available on Topfield's site).

But is a TF5100 with this firmware free of the CYR bug?

Are you going to buy a JCB to dig a trench for the cable too?

That's just ridiculous....it would be much easier to hire the JCB!

I've no idea, but I think probably not. This most likely fixes the bug I mentioned must exist a few posts back. It's not a complete solution for, I suspect, the chase play case (and a corresponding configuration in the watching case, if the tuners were allowed to be badly used).

I've since located the fix in the TF5000PVR_TF5500PVR-406-2007Oct17.tfd firmware and also a shelved TF5800 beta (5.13.72) -- so it seems this bug fix is maybe coming across to other firmwares, but has (temporarily?) been canned for the TF5800. Confused

I'm trying to recall, but we might have have a change of the main engineer on the TF5800 between that .72 and the 5.14 series, which may account for it. If you can detail for me what you think it fixed in .72 (in fairly simple terms, for non-native speakers) and drop it to me in an email, I'll pass it on and hopefully it will get picked up again.

I've just tried it out and together with the playback fix... it seems to work! I also tried to get into a situation with both tuners on the same mux, but I couldn't do it (not easily anyway). I suspect there's maybe still a chance of that happening, but I think the likelihood is greatly reduced (possibly a combination of recordings finishing in a certain order). Here's a [Xw] WatchNoCYR_02 patch. (Edit: changed URL to point to latest version.)

It would be much easier if they sent me the source code for that section and I amended it! Basically, in the last section that checks whether the sub service (PiP) could be "changed" in order to do the recording, the 3rd clause of the "if" checks what I've called "tunerSvcBusyNotResuable()" against the timer tuner, guarded with timer.tuner<>ANY_TUNER (3) and timer.tuner<>etc.tunerMain. This should be changed to eliminate the check on timer.tuner<>ANY_TUNER and make the "tunerSvcBusyNotResuable()" function check the "1-etc.currTunerMain" tuner (i.e. the "other" tuner). This is what the patch does.
