Thanks so much for this!
This, an NSLU2 with ftpd-topfield (7.4), homeplug and VLC have cured the problem of streaming video around the house!

At 650KB/s the upload link feels even slower now though. Could you make a patch for that as well?
I can understand DeadBeef's reluctance to patch the upload (since it would cover all received packets), but in a moment of rare bravery I tried it out and it seemed pretty benign (and a good deal faster). All the recordings I uploaded played back fine. Is there much interest in this patch, for those who like ignoring health warnings? Smile

How about doing it as a TAP as well, giving an additional safety element as long as it's not placed in Auto Start? That way you can't accidentally forget about it.

Oh yes. It's a relief that the endless Thomas/Pocoyo/etc come down more quickly now but their edited counterparts still take so long to go back up.

Good idea. I've packaged it up as a simple TAP: usb_upload. Run it once and the patch is applied. Run it again and the patch is removed. Probably a very good idea to ensure there is no USB traffic when running the TAP...

Thanks. It's definitely worth running.

A quick before and after with a 123.9MB file shows a 16.9% improvement in speed with turbo and an off-air channel [1], and a 22.8% improvement with non-turbo and a live channel [2].

[1] 852.41 kB/s -> 996.48 kB/s
[2] 436.10 kB/s -> 535.56 kB/s

USB_Upload. If it proves suitably stable then it might be worth checking whether adjusting things like ftpd-topfield and Altair's .dll to not bother generate the CRC will provide a further speed up. I'm not convinced it's worth it in the latter case (running on a fast PC), but the former might be beneficial (running on a slow Slug/Asus).

Any chance of an index page on your website so we can keep track of all the patches you keep coming up with? Wink

Actually I found the patch sticky, that will do, if you maintain that!

Just did a quick patch to my ftpd-topfield and it made some difference. Non-turbo samples: (a) without Toppy patch: 377Kb/s, (b) with Toppy patch: 444Kb/s, (c) with Toppy and ftpd-topfield patches: 460Kb/s. These were just fairly quick samples (although allowed to settle to a consistent speed), and done close together.

Any help please,
I downloaded the TAP version, unzipped and transferred to Toppy.
Tested with a 609Mb file.
Without Tap
13mins 12 sec
turbo on = 5mins 18 secs

When I ran Tap the results were the exactly the same ( to the second) even when I moved Tap to auto start folder and switched off/on.
What am I doing Wrong, any thoughts please
