StopZero uses a simple TAP API method to prevent the zero key changing aspect ratio, and will work on all firmwares. Remote Extender hacks the firmware to remove the aspect ratio change call, so may not work on all firmwares. The feature is optional. I've also produced a firmware patch for use with the firmware patcher.

This was the reason I asked this Smile

Where is this patch? Is there other patches missing from TAPWorld's patch section? Why haven't anyone told me about these patches?

Please everyone, if you know there is a patch that is missing from TAPWorld, please let me know. This way we would have even one place where every patches would be listed.

If anyone wants it, the zero key hack can be packaged into a patch that can be applied directly to the firmware using Firebird's firmware tool.

I would like to have this feature but your patch can not be installed into my FW. Would you like to try to make patch for Finnish FW also?

I am currently using FW from this package: http://www.tapworld.net/fw/2.83/2.83_kaikki_mallit.zip

I have just noticed that the aspect ratio switch inhibit is no longer working and the options screen shows "N/A". I assume this is because I am on 5.13.55.

Any plans to update this TAP for this & later firmware?

Is the firmware patch firmware independent?

TIA,

EMJB

I know that the firmware patch works on .55 but not .56 if this is of any help to you...

I emailed Simon regarding if it was possible to customize this tap so that it works for us with non UK remotes - maybe you didn't get my mail? As many other I would like MyStuff to just jump to the next channel when I hit P+ and not to the next Now&Next info. As a workaround I have option B3 switched off and manually bring up Now&Next, but would of course rather have it on.

I think it'd be better if this was addressed in MyStuff. Remote Extender reports the hardware key code to each TAP, and whilst mapping them to different values is possible, it'd need a fair bit of work to make the mappings load from an ini file. Perhaps you could ask Bob if he could add an option to MyStuff that gives the result you need?

Thanks for your answer, I'll ask Bob instead.

I'm going to split some of these more detailed hacking threads off into the developers' area, lest they alarm the more innocent TAP users.

Nigel.

Good call - they are beginning to frighten me. Mind you, it does demonstrate to us mere users what a good group of dedicated people we have working on these TAPs and firmware hacks.

I thought RE was firmware aware. It doesn't run on 5.13.65.
Have you a new version for 5.13.65
