Update 10/5/2010:
There's a new beta of iGuide 2 (2.5a - Sid: Mr Vicious's birthday) available to download from the website, or directly from here.
See the post here, or the readme file in the zip, for more information.
Cheers
Nic
Change List:
2.5a (Sid):
* Fixed bug with ticking of recordings
* Fixed spaceline bug for large (1.5TB) disks
* Simplified event/nonevent loading routines

* Simplified recording refresh; made it a daily event

* Fixed bug in paragraph printing, whereby if a single word was longer than the line iGuide would hang
* Made new recordings enter the folder of existing recordings from the same series, if no genre forced the recording into a particular folder first
2.0y (Cliff):
* Fixed interaction with [Cp] patch which caused multiple notification of key presses
* Added help on the [WHITE] key, on all pages

Hi all
I missed a support request for iGuide 2 beta last week cos the request was made in the iGuide 1.1 thread (which I monitor less often now).
So I'm just bumping this message to the top again, to remind people it's here in case of problems.
Any issues with iGuide 2 beta, please leave a note here, or PM me.
Cheers

I have now uploaded a new beta - v2.0c - to the same URL: http://www.shinyford.co.uk/toppy/iguide20beta.zip.
This fixes a number of bugs from the earlier betas.
If you have the chance to try it, I'd appreciate any feedback. Please note:
* it is still beta, there may still be bugs and untested scenarios
* it is designed to be standalone, and to take over most of the remote's keys. There shouldn't be any interactions with other TAPs running concurrently, but I'm not in a position to test such situations.
Thanks for any and all feedback.
Cheers

Hi
I've been running iguide beta 2.0 (probably 2.0b?) for a while now and think it is great.
One thing that irks me:
when you change volume and then change channel straight away, the info box 'reverts' to standard toppy. Has this been changed in 2.0c?
Also when changing channel, the info box pops up on the first press and only on the next press does it change channel. Can this be set as an option?
Thanks again, I shall try 2.0c soon. Are there any special instructions for upgrading to 2.0c from 2.0b?

No special instructions, but be aware that some of the file formats have changed slightly, so you may lose a small amount of recording information. Unless you've set the 'keep contiguous recordings' option to 'together', this shouldn't be noticable.
I wasn't aware of the volume problem - I'll have a look at it.
And I think the default action should be for P+/P- to change channel first press, but it isn't at the moment. Again, I'll change and make a new release - look out for 2.0d beta.
Thanks for the comments

Thanks for the response, I'll have a go tonight!
Is there a changelog so I can look out for what is new or changed?

Hi Nick
Been trying iguide 2.00c for 2 days with no trouble
but for one thing I can not change the skins,I do not
know if I have downloaded skins or not, also it would
great if you could I.D the symbols ie record/watch/series
and" tick ".
thanks Eddie
P.S Do I load mystuff skin files in iguide folder |

Hi Eddie - thanks for the post.
Yes, if you put the MyStuff skins into the iguide directory, they should be available to iGuide: press [MENU] to go to the config screen, then choose the second option and you'll be taken into a skin-edit screen. The third option on this page allows you to choose one of the skin files you've loaded into the iguide directory.
Use [LEFT] and [RIGHT] to move through the files, and [OK] to preview what it looks like. If you're happy, press [YELLOW] (I think) to save.
Warning: there is a bug in this piece of code which I've not tracked down yet, which sometimes causes a crash a few minutes after the skin has been changed. If this happens, all will be well again after the reboot. (I'll try to get that bug fixed before a full release )
There aren't any skins with the default download, but if you want some try http://www.shinyford.co.uk/toppy/iguide_skins.zip for some samples. Also there's a manual (a little out of date now) at http://www.shinyford.co.uk/toppy/iguide20beta.pdf
What do you mean by 'ID' the symbols? (The tick, by the way, is a debug image that won't be in the full release - it means that the programme is being recorded as part of a block, the block being 'owned' by a 'normal' recording at the beginning. This only shows up if you have the 'Show contiguous recordings' settings set to 'together'. The block-recording idea is new to this beta, and not as well tested as recording programmes individually, so I would suggest changing that setting to 'apart' for better reliability. It's on the second config page - press [MENU] once to get into config, and then again to get to the second page.)
Hope that's useful.
Cheers

I'm not sure why that would happen without a little more information, but like I said above, try setting 'Keep contiguous recordings' to 'apart' - if it is something to do with that setting, then future recordings (at least) should be safe.
Cheers

Hi Nick
I had a play last night I hope this will help you,
set Keep Contiguous Recordings back to "together"
recorded "emmerdale" which you could see on LCD as
"record" after the end went to iguide recording file
but it was not thier, but it was in toppys own recording
file, the same when I was recording "House" but this time
I reset to "apart" half way into the recording, everthing was
back to normal i.e. recording in iguide file "recorded".
I hope this Helps.

Hi Eddie
Glad it's working (relatively) okay. There are issues with the 'together' recording thing which means sometimes it fails to store a recording: I'm hoping to fix that and put another beta up this weekend. Till then, I'd advise setting the option to 'apart'
'May I suggest': all I can say is 'Argh!' This is more alpha than beta, and I thought I'd disabled it when I created the latest beta for upload - apparently, I hadn't. So it's out there.
What it is, is this: I've had a number of people now ask me for something like the Tivo's predictive recording ability - record things that it thinks you might like. So 'May I Suggest' is a first stab at that.
To use it:
Find a (small) number of things you really like in your recordings and timers list. You can tick these by pressing P+ (and untick them by pressing P-) in the recordings and timers view - a little heart graphic shows up when a recording's ticked. (I can't remember if the 'May I suggest' option needs to be set to something other than 'no' for this ticking process to work - if you don't see anything, set the option and try again.)
Once you've ticked one or more recordings, and set the MIS option to 5, 10 or 15, the Toppy should create a folder called 'May I Suggest' and fill it with 5, 10 or 15 timers it thinks you might like.
There's a limited amount of information available in the Freeview EPG, so it's a somewhat loose algorithm - less fuzzy logic, more downright floppy. But it comes up with some interesting suggestions.
Let me know if this feature is fun or rubbish.
Cheers

OK, I gave this a try again with the new beta.
After a few days the main issues I have seen are still with general stability - I leave my Toppy on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 2 issues I've experienced twice each are as follows:
1. Come back and the Toppy is switched off.
2. Come back and the picture is frozen, have to press the on/off button to get it working again. The latest instance of this was tonight, this time I know it froze at 09:10 as there was a clock on the frozen screen picture.
Any ideas? |

Hi De,
I have been trying iguide 2.0c for 4/5 days with only the
problems you can see in my posts, at the moment it is
running well even "May I Suggest" I to run the toppy 7
days a week x24 hours, I cleared all my other Taps
before I downloaded iguide I know it is early days yet,
what I would like would be a search file, then the Tap
would be complete.
Eddie
P.S. Maybe thers a fault with your toppy. |
