I wandered into Currys on Argyle Street in Glasgow at lunchtime and there, sitting on the shelf, was a TF5800 Black Panther for 279.99.

There's no mention of it on the Currys web site yet and I didn't fancy tackling an assistant to ask how long they'd been in stock but I certainly haven't seen it there before.

I've just had official confirmation of this; as of last week, the TF5800 250Gb black panther has been on sale in Currys, and should be available in all stores.

Additionally, quite a few of the Topfield receivers, including the TF5800, are now available from Maplin - though the site states 'Web only.'

Nigel.

I never thought I would see the day a toppy was forsale in a main stream store like currys. (don't know why I am surprised)
Congratulations to Nigel and turbostat.

And from Tecno and their retail arm Jessops.

Like Maplins, it's mail order only for both of those but at least the Toppy is listed.

My silver 250gb toppy was from www.petertyson.co.uk

It cost 260 quid and came with a 2 year warranty as standard.

Great news.

Ironically when we replaced the Fusions by Sagems I fedback to head office that we should be looking at stocking high end machines like the Toppy. I was told they'd looked at it, but it wasn't to be chosen.

I just hope we're given the necesary material to people unlike myself who don't know its advantages over the cheaper PVRs.

You will have a hard time selling the benefits of TAPs, especially when I believe you couldn't have any loaded on a demo unit as this would give a false impression of what people are buying and you might need the permission of the authors. Really, to sell the Toppy, a sales person needs to understand the basic features and also the extra features you can get from TAPs. They should also have this website to hand so the technical minded can see what can be done

An opportunity for a Flash coder on here to put together a walkthrough demo of a typical (is there is such a thing) TAP usage?

Its a shame that the toppy doesnt come bundled with a Cd containing the software ( altair +drivers etc) as well as a few demo taps so that new users can discover the benifits of Taps easily.

A really nice touch on that site is to be found here.

And I quote...

"Visit www.toppy.org.uk - an excellent website dedicated to the Topfield products."

I haven't seen this on any other retailer's site.

It's nice to see Nigel's (and, for that matter, all of the members') contributions being acknowledged.

That wouldn't be any fun. Its the seeking out and testing of taps, fine tuning and killing of the machine that is so much fun. My Toppy is first a toy, secondly a PVR.

I assume others feel the same, and those who don't have bought the wrong machine.
