An update to ftpd-topfield is available

Version 0.7.4
    * Fix APPE (append to file) so that it appends rather than overwrite
    * STOU (store unique) is not supported, so return an error
    * Login is always anonymous
    * Disable crc check on received packets by default. Needed when using deadbeef's USB accelerator (http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8655)

Version 0.7.3
*Allow a client to pause a GET indefinitely while still allowing other clients to interrupt it if necessary
    * Be a bit smarter about determining when to cancel an in-progress get
    * Disable reverse DNS lookups by default -- enable with -R/--resolve-dns

Version 0.7.2
    * Fix a memory corruption bug when updating firmware which caused it to fail sometimes
    * Show file times for files less than 1 year old
    * Rename inside /turbo virtual directory now works even when full path names are used
Version 0.7.1
    * If a RESTART occurs past the end of a file, don't return random data past the end of the file.
    * The 'SITE REBOOT' was not being accepted
    * Show file times for files less than 1 year old
    * Also some minor changes to help it build on more platforms
Version 0.7.0
    * Fix the ABOR commands so that the control connection is kept open
    * When the client drops the data connection, keep the control connection open
    * Clean up better in some circumstances so that the toppy doesn't get confused
    * Add a /turbo virtual directory which makes it easier to fetch in turbo mode without a site command
    * Add support for 'SITE REBOOT' to reboot the toppy
    * If the client fails to accept the data in a timely manner, "pause" the usb connection so that the data connection doesn't need to be dropped.
    * Add support for specifying one of several topfield devices with --device n, where 0 is the first device, 1 is the second, etc.
    * Fix a problem where an OOB ABOR command would not be processed until the current transfer was finished
The new version is available via CVS and at
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~msteveb/topfield/ftpd-topfield-0.7.4.tar.gz

The unslung and Oleg's wl500g packages will be available in the feeds in due course.
No update is available yet for wl500g-openwrt. The older package is available from http://members.ozemail.com.au/~msteveb/topfield/wl500g-openwrt/ftpd-topfield_0.7.1-0_mipsel.ipk

Looks very interesting.

Anything we need to watch out for in updating, or is it just a case of pushing the new version on top of the old one?

Also - the /turbo directory looks very useful, how would I use that?

TIA

Looking at the guide page 21 it looks as though to upgrade you type

ipkg remove ftpd-topfield
ipkg update
ipkg install ftpd-topfield

I'll try it in a mo....

[Edit] it seems that easy! typing:
ipkg files ftpd-topfield

confirms 0.7.0.0 is installed on my Asus...

Nothing to watch out for.

Regarding /turbo, just try it. cd into it (or click on it if using a GUI ftp client)

Cheers,
Steve

You shouldn't need the remove. Just the update and install.

Cheers,
Steve

I've come across an annoying problem, which had me scratching my head for a while. Last night I did some transfers and in the morning I noticed it hadn't got very far through. It had done a couple of files then seemed to be stuck (on 100%) downloading one file. That file was 18Gb (instead of 1Gb) when I finally stopped it to investigate. Then I noticed that the Toppy had files with exactly the same name apart from the case of a couple of letters. The programme in question was "Knowing Me, Knowing You... With Alan Partridge". The problem was in the case of the "w" of "With" (and another difference on other files was the elision of the ellipsis). The first file listed was 1Gb and the second file was less than that. My FTP settings do a resume on existing files (rather than restarting the whole download when there's a connection error), so it seems that ftpd-topfield got asked for beyond the end of the file and then started dumping the rest of the Toppy's disk.

I'll check out the new version and see if that helps. But I suspect that the case sensitive nature of the Toppy's file system is often going to cause problems with Windows.

A quick test with a couple of small files shows that the problem still exists. I'll report it, just in case it's something that can easily be fixed.

Edit: I've just had a hard think about it, and while there's a problem with ftpd-topfield being asked to resume beyond the end of the file, there's also a problem in that FileZilla (my FTP program) shouldn't have asked it to do that (but FileZilla didn't know this because it didn't know that the filenames were meant to be different...).

Thanks for the report. The fix will be in the next version.

Cheers,
Steve

site reboot doesn't work for me Sad I am doing this via Filezilla: Enter Raw FTP command. Site Turbo works just fine using this method.

Looks like part of the reboot support got lost.
That will be in the next version too.

Cheers,
Steve

Has anyone tried compiling ftpd-topfield on linux and in particular ubuntu? I tried a couple of days ago, but it could not find the usb.h include. I then altered the Makefile so that it included the kernel headers usb.h, but still failed. Any ideas?

I built ftpd-topfield on ubuntu a few weeks ago. I don't remember any particular problem with the header files.

I think it should be using "linux/usb.h" on Ubuntu. If it's not, that's your problem. If it is, then you need to make sure you've got the libusb package installed.

Hi,

I just did this to upgrade - seems to work fine:

# ipkg-cl install http://members.ozemail.com.au/~msteveb/topfield/unslung/ftpd-topfield_0.7.0-0_armeb.ipk
Downloading http://members.ozemail.com.au/~msteveb/topfield/unslung/ftpd-topfield_0.7.0-0_armeb.ipk
Upgrading ftpd-topfield on root from 0.6.10-1 to 0.7.0-0...
Configuring ftpd-topfield
Warning: option -e/--noeplf is deprecated. eplf mode is off by default

Try with the latest version (0.7.0)
Ubuntu no longer has usb.h, but usb_ch9.h instead.

Cheers,
Steve
