The software library pages of the site have now been extended with the addition of a page listing downloads for users of systems running Linux/UNIX.
You can find the new page at http://www.toppy.org.uk/downloads/linux.php and also by selecting the Linux option on some of the site navigation menus.
Additionally, you can now select Linux as your computer platform in the Services area.

I'm the author of Guppy which is a graphical application for transferring files to a Toppy on Linux. I was wondering if you like to add a link to it on this page. The Guppy home page is at http://guppy.nongnu.org

Guppy is great - I tried ToppyWeb and the PHP stuff but I prefer Python anyway. It was easy once I'd installed and built Puppy and Guppy - the only snag on Ubuntu was to run them as root, not under user so as to access the USB port.
I'm going to try making something like ToppyWeb but in Python and working for the UK Toppy model, but are stumped at the thinking stage of how to get timers and EPG data off without using all the baggage of the Aussie ToppyWeb EPG grabbers stuff. |

Hi Tony, what exactly is the advantage of Guppy (using puppy) over a graphical FTP client (using ftpd-topfield)?
That's very professional software and website infrastructure you have produced BTW. It all looks very classy. |

I haven't tried ftpd-topfield so I can't point out exact differences. But what I've tried to do with Guppy is to integrate it well with the Toppy, e.g. showing the amount of free disk space available, retrying the download if there is an error.
Guppy is more or less modeled on Altair but with some more advanced features such as being able to queue additional downloads while a download is in progress.
And I'm always open for feature sugguestions.
