Description Extender extends the EPG programme description text that is visible to TAPs by returning a longer programme description (up to 256 characters) in the EPG extended data.

Improbox, UKOZSurfer and Jag's EPG 3.0 and EPG Navigator all support Description Extender.

The TAP can be configured or stopped using TAP Commander or TSR Commander.

Current version

Version 0.3 is now available (same location) and adds support for long descriptions on radio channels.

Hi Simon,
Your site seems to be down. Would you mind alerting us in this thread when it is back up? I'm really keen to try your TAP.

thanks,

Geoffrey

and

It looks like the name servers of sitesled are down, which explains why its not working for me, but is for you. Ergo, your ISP has probably cached the IP

Simon, With firmware 5.12.25 some of the extended programme information is truncated. This is happening randomly on various channels.

Funny as I had this same thing this evening with 'Perfect Day' on five. When I then hit the Guide button and returned to improbox the full description was there. Wife and I watching this now so can't test any other channels.

While the commercial break was on I switched to CH4 and looked at the improbox write up for Space Cadets. As I flicked through improbox it would every now and again be short of the extended info. Like you say Frank its pretty random.

I've seen this happen on older firmware too, although perhaps not as readily. If it continues to be a problem I'll look into it.

This is still a problem.

There was no problem with firmware 5-12-09 seems to be confined to firmware 5.12.25

I'm not sure how significant it is but the truncated description problem seems worse after my Toppy has been on a while. I wonder if it is related to how populated the EPG is at the time?

I sometimes see all the description is present in Surfer, but will suddenly truncate without any user intervention. I assume Surfer is doing a periodic refresh and fails to find the info. (I mention this as it implies channel change isn't a factor).

Simon,
Have there been any developments on the random nature of the above behaviour, i.e. extended info comes and goes - sometimes by simply pressing info several times. I've started to notice this rather more recently Rolling Eyes Is it possible to circumvent this in any way, e.g. TAP loading sequence ...

I have to admit than I'm baffled by this one. The Toppy is just returning 127 characters randomly regardless of the fact I'm telling it to return 256.

I might need to use a more firmware specific method of getting the info, which is a pity, but should be more reliable.

How permenant is the firmware change ? Does it only last while the tap is running, or until the next restart, or until the firmware is re-loaded ?
