Hi All,
I've been working on a more informative/usable MP3 player and I think it's time to share it and get some feedback. At the moment the Jukebox is rather plain (not in the same league as UK project stuff) but I can deal with icing later if feedback positive. Also note that the keys are not configurable as yet and I'm using the "TVSat" button to activate the TAP - so be aware if you use that key for something else.
Most testing was with firmware 5.12.04, I've just installed 09 and it seems fine too.
You can download the TAP from here...
http://www.netgio.com/mp3player.tap
If you run JukeBox it will enter TSR mode (TSR Commander compatible).
Press "TV/Sat" to enter "Jukebox" mode - it will search for a random MP3 file to play to begin with and should start playback.
Display shows the following:
1) Info on selected button or action
2) Current Playback mode
3) Currently playing File and folder
4) Next File and folder to play (if no user interaction)
5) Progress bar/% complete/Track time/Elapsed Track time
6) Artist/Track name
7) Action buttons
In playback mode you have the following options:
Up/P+ & Down/P- : Move through the buttons
OK : Select the chosen option
Most options have a direct key mapping shown in [...]
<< [Rewind] - Restart the current track
X [Stop] - Not Implemented Yet
> [play] - Skip to the next track in the current folder
>> [Forward] - Skip to a new (random) folder
PM [pause] - Toggle Playback Mode (Full Random, Random in current folder, Sequential in current folder)
Browse [Menu] - Show MP3 browser (see below)
Config - Not Yet Implemented
Playlist - Not Yet Implemented
Close [TV/Sat]- Stop playback and return to TV (remain resident)
Exit [Exit] - Stop playback and exit TAP
Vol+/- are still active though Volume OSD is not visible.
In Browse mode the top item in the list is always the selection:
Up/Down - Scroll through list (folder maked with "n>", files marked "n)"
Right - Enter selected folder
Left - Back to preview folder
OK - Play selected folder or file.
Exit - Return to playback info.
Feedback welcome, still plenty of work to do!

A goodlooking MP3 player with some nice itunes effects is just what we need. Maybe a future option would be to display art in the same directory as the MP3 so we can use cover art. That would be v.good.
I will check out the TAP when I get home tonight, but it sounds good. |

I did take a peek at album art, but being a WMP user the only examples I have are M$'s use of system files to hold the images.
If someone can provide me with a spec or some pointers on itunes or other album art filenames/locations/formats I'll take a look.
Started work on playlist support on the train this morning...

| Excellent TAP so far, a big improvement on the random mp3 player and the normal toppy one. I have been wating for this for some time. I will have a play with it and give feedback. But so far excellent. I will be keeping an eye out for updates. Oh dear while typing this the screen just went green. I was using the radio channels at the time with the player using the random in the folder function! |

Sorry you had an issue even though the timing was impecable.
Do you mean you were listening to radio prior to activating the Jukebox? Did this happen as you were navigating, or just while letting the tracks play through? Any idea whether this was at the start of a new track?
Almost forgot to ask, which firmware are you on?
Will take a look tonight and thanks for the feedback.
Cheers

| As far as I'm aware regarding album art, as long as there's an image called called folder.jpg in the folder itself, it will show it for the album cover. |

Hi there,
all my album art is embedded into the mp3 file themselves. I believe it is at the start of the file. You need to have a look at the spec, that shuld details how to find it...
Cheers

Tried the Tap last night and it's looking good so far.
I can see me transfering my mp3 collection to the toppy soon to play out of my 5.1 setup!!!
This machine just keeps getting better with each new TAP. |

Whilst trying this very promising TAP last night, I found that the option to play sequential in a folder did not always start at the first mp3 in the folder.
I would also prefer your index (starting 0 - ) in the left column during browsing to be a number (starting 1 - ).
I think it would also be useful to see the track number of total tracks in folder (eg 5 / 10) for the track that is currently playing. Maybe it does this already, I can't remember.
Great Stuff |

Will it support playlists generated on the toppy?
something along the lines of selecting a track from the mp3 folders and adding it to the current playlist ( ie a que list) and possibly editing of the current playlist ( ie change order of the playlist/remove tracks0? |

This a good start. A decent player is certainly needed.
A couple of comments, constructive I hope!
I think that your tap should not start in random mode, but wait for an input before starting.
The playlist function would be ideally the next feature. The lists could be files that are produced on a PC at first. As it must be simpler to implement than creating them on the toppy. |

Hi,
This is certainly a welcome TAP, and looking very promising. I have one issue so far. When listening in random mode, skipping to the next track does not skip to the next random track, but seemingly to the next track in the folder.
Another question. Is it possible to pause the music? I often wish to use such a feature, as I have MP3s for language learning on the Toppy and it is helpful to pause occasionally.

I will look into the starting on input (perhaps make it a config option), and playlists are coded waiting testing once I've looked in to the crash reported above.
Thanks for the input |

Will look into the into the random issue, but I've not seen this - with my folders it is definitely jumping around the entire library.
Pause could be difficult as there is not API to pause playback of MP3. It may be possible to cheat and store the current block being read and and then restart and skip to the stored block...it's a long shot though!
Thanks for the feedback. |

Hi Rich, I've coded and about to test playlist v0.1. this will allow you to add tracks form the Jukebox file browser, the currently playing track.
You will be able to view the playlist (similar to folder browsing) and delete items (no reordering yet). I'm also supporting saving/loading to/from disk to a default location. Added files will be added to the end of the current playlist, so if it is being played your track will essentially be "queued up".
Future version will allow reordering, adding the next track (rather than current) and user named playlist files. |
