Any particular reason why? My old 555 and newer Ultimate are far better than any OFA is have tried.

I was basing that on looking to spend up to £30 and what they look like.

The 950 looks lovely but i cant justify £200

Maybe a 650/655, still quite expensive for use with just the 5810 Toppy

Do you think the 650 or 655 may work ? Confused

I was debating whether to just go for a 650 to replace my ailing 555 with some iffy buttons rather than the more expensive Ultimate. I was trying to convince myself that I could live with just eight activities rather than the twelve I currently have defined. So yes, other than that, a 650 or 655 would be acceptable to me.

12!

I'd ratrher it looks like a 555, too much Sky like for me but still considering!

These guys don't love it too much

The John lewis reviews either say great or hard to set up. But once set up it's set up surely.

It is true that Logitech Harmony remote controls pay dividends from taking the time and trouble to set them up exactly as you want them (which reminds me that I need to add some commands to my Chromecast activity to switch surround mode on my AV amp depending on if I am casting a TV or a radio programme).

My experience with them is the PC /Web interface to set them up is complete shite but once set-up they work extremely well.

The original remote can be perked up for a while by taking it apart and running a hot soldering iron across the faulty button contacts. Don't worry, it's made of silicon, so it won't melt. You can check that conductivity has been restored by using a meter on resistance (~ 10k range). Place the 2 meter probes on the same pad, as long as it shows less than 5kohm, it should be OK.

Well I gave it a go, on most i struggled to get a reading at all! Has much improved although there is only a few I managed to get below 5kohm.

Yes, I've had some pads that don't respond too. The 5810 remote is pretty crap quality; nowhere near as good as the 5800 remote.

There's a firmware patch for the 5810 which allows a 5800 remote to work instead.

Now that's interesting.

I can only see Ry here which does the opposite http://www.toppy.org.uk/~r2-d2/patches.html#Ry

How do I go about adding Rz? (I've only ever installed the recommended firmware when installing MS)

From the above link I gather I need PWPatcher for PC, the links for the FWPatcher and the manual don't work.

Any pointers appriciated!

I only ever used FWPatcher to add patches, but there are other ways to do it.

I'll try and find the links, but someone who has done it that way may be better suited to advise you.

This link, section 13, may give you some clues.....

If you look in Program Files on your Toppy, you'll see InstallerFirmware. Open the folder and you'll find a subfolder called Add. Copy the patch file there, then run FwLoad (which may be in the Utilities folder).

To remove it, just delete it from Add, then run FwLoad again.
